Principal officers and managers of Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions convened for the annual retreat organized by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, focusing on strategic approaches to managing higher education within a rapidly evolving digital economy.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, set the tone in his opening address, underscoring the critical need for tertiary institutions to embrace modern technology as a catalyst for growth and development.

He urged participants to utilize the retreat as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, the strengthening of inter-institutional collaborations, and the exploration of innovative management strategies tailored for the digital age.

Mr. Sule further assured the attendees of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to providing essential support and resources necessary for state tertiary institutions to achieve their overarching objectives and contribute effectively to the state’s progress.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, who presented a comprehensive perspective on the multifaceted challenges facing tertiary institutions in the digital landscape.

Professor Ogundipe emphasised the necessity of a holistic approach to address infrastructural deficits, financial constraints, and human capital development. He strongly advocated for the cultivation of strategic partnerships, the promotion of continuous learning and upskilling, and the imperative of adaptability to foster innovation and maintain academic excellence within the institutions.

Contributing to the discourse, the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, presented a paper highlighting the indispensable role of industrial harmony in fostering productivity, driving institutional growth, and ensuring sustainable development across all state-owned tertiary institutions.
