The Odo-Nla Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ikorodu North LCDA has undergone a major transformation, thanks to WaterAid Nigeria, which spearheaded its renovation and the installation of a 12,000-litre water plant to enhance healthcare service delivery.

The official commissioning and handover ceremony, which held recently, also included the presentation of two sets of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) maintenance kits, aimed at promoting hygiene and infection control within the facility.

The event, which brought together key stakeholders, highlighted the importance of clean water and sanitation in delivering quality healthcare services.

Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District II, expressed appreciation for WaterAid Nigeria’s efforts and emphasised the critical role of a clean and safe environment in healthcare.

In her words, “These WASH kits are a key part of our strategy to ensure that healthcare facilities are not just places of treatment but also safe environments that protect both patients and healthcare workers from preventable diseases. Beyond the physical structure, this renovation has created a more conducive setting for healthcare delivery”.

“We have also introduced wellness clinics to promote preventive care, and we encourage our mothers, fathers, youths and the elderly to take full advantage of the improved facility,” Dr. Lajide stated.

She further stressed the importance of maintaining the newly upgraded facility, urging both healthcare workers and community members to uphold the high standards established through WaterAid’s intervention.

In his remarks, Builder Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, highlighted the impact of the renovation on the local community.

“The commissioning of these WASH maintenance kits marks a pivotal moment for us. It is a clear sign that we are taking the right steps to improve sanitation and hygiene in our healthcare centres, ultimately benefiting the residents of Ikorodu North LCDA,” Banjo said.

Mrs. Evelyn Mere, Country Director of WaterAid Nigeria, underscored the organization’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through improved WASH services.

“WaterAid is dedicated to ensuring that every healthcare facility in Nigeria, including Odo-Nla PHC, is equipped with sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. Our partnership with Ikorodu North LCDA and Lagos Health District II reflects our shared vision of creating safer healthcare environments for both patients and staff,” she said.

A key moment of the ceremony was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WaterAid Nigeria and Ikorodu North LCDA, reinforcing their long-term commitment to sustaining the improvements made at Odo-Nla PHC.

With the renovation, Odo-Nla PHC is now better positioned to provide quality healthcare services in a cleaner, safer, and more efficient environment, setting a new benchmark for primary healthcare infrastructure in the region
