For the second time this year, the Mary Nwauju Foundation, a humanitarian group with focus on assisting the less privileged and vulnerable especially, elderly people has provided support for 500 residents.
The beneficiaries were provided with packs of food items which include rice, beans, spaghetti, noodles, sachet vegetable oil, salt, maggi, beverages, and seasonings among others, at the Kingsmead School Hall, 6 – 8, Kingsmead School off Erunwen Road, which is off Obafemi Awolowo Way, Erunwen, Ikorodu.
The initiative tagged, ‘Elderly Nourishment Drive’, started in 2023, and according to the convener of the Mary Nwauju Foundation and the Proprietor, Kingsmead School, Mrs Ezinwayi Adeolu – Idowu,, it would be a continuous exercise.

The care for the elderly people on Friday for the Eid -El – Mubarak, made it the fourth edition of the food distribution by the foundation.
Mrs Adeolu – Idowu, who said that she chose to care for the elderly people because of her closeness to her mother and her friends and seeing what they go through on a daily basis.
She said that is concerned about parents spending their entire life time to take care of their children and the society but get nothing at old age and are also treated with contempt, this she added encouraged her foundation that is named after her mother to care for the senior citizens.

“The essence of this foundation is to care for and take care of the elderly people.
“I do see my mother and her friends and feel what they go through because I am from the village. This encourages me to care for the elders and because I also want to grow old and enjoy my old age.
“Those elderly people have sacrificed their lives for us, especially mothers, so this is an opportunity to bring them together and treat them well,” she observed.
The school proprietor and philanthropist emphasized the goals of the foundation: “So, the essence of this foundation is to show love and care for the elders.”

But it wasn’t all about distribution of food items alone at the event, as some of the elders shared their lifetime experiences, many of which invoked emotions and they commended the Mary Nwauju Foundation for always remembering and supporting them.
They also engaged in dancing competitions with winners going home with gift items.
Special prayers were also offered for the convener of the Mary Nwauju Foundation and they commended her for the kind gestures.
At the distribution were the husband of the convener, Engr. Adeolu Idowu, her sister and stakeholder, Mrs Oby Ezenwaka, Mr Olubode Mac Oserinde, the Team Lead of the Fanafillit Integrated Concept among other guests.
