-Call for respect for heritage, tradition

The indigenes of Isolo Kingdom in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, have voiced out their concern against the dominance and marginalisation by non – indigenes and to correct this, they have united through a non -violent movement to reclaim their rightful leadership.
For decades, the concerned Isolo people who are deeply rooted in Awori heritage, and have long welcomed settlers and fostered peaceful coexistence, alleged that non-indigenous leadership has governed, leaving the true sons and daughters of Isolo marginalized and their voices unheard and unattended to.

Prince Owolabi Bashiru Faronbi, a prominent community leader, in a statement lamented how the non – indigenes have sidelined those that he said uphold the kingdom’s traditions and development.
To change the present order, the movement has made key demands calling for:
“Indigenous Representation: 60% Leadership roles must reflect the voice and values of Isolo’s indigenes.
“Equity and Justice: A fair, inclusive governance structure that respects Isolo’s heritage, and

“Cultural Preservation: Protection of Awori traditions and historical landmarks within Isolo,” the community leaders demanded on behalf of Isolo indigenes.
The indigenous movement furthered, “We are not against anyone living and thriving in Isolo, but leadership must reflect the identity, culture, and heritage of Isolo’s true custodians — the indigenes.
“Our people must have a say in shaping the future of our homeland.”

Prince Faronbi calls on stakeholders in Isolo to support the cause and ensure that justice prevail for the indigenous people to have control in their own land.
“We call on all stakeholders — from the grassroots to the highest offices — to stand for justice and ensure indigenous leadership is restored to Isolo LCDA.
“This is not just about leadership — it’s about dignity, identity, and the future of our people,” added Prince Faronbi

The movement also called on His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, to intervene and ensure that Isolo indigenes receive fair representation in their own LCDA.
