Anwar – Ul – Islam Movement Hosts 25th Ramadan Lecture, Honoured Rep. Benson

The Ikorodu Division Men’s and Ladies Guilds of the Anwar – Ul – Islam Movement of Nigeria held the 25th edition of its annual Ramadan lecture with an award of excellence bestowed on the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

Rep. Benson, who was honoured at the Ikorodu Town Hall venue of the lecture on Sunday, in recognition of his selfless service to humanity and immense contributions to  Islam and the Ikorodu Division, was the Chief Host of the event.

This year’s lecture was themed, “The Impact of Economic Hardship on the Average Nigerian, Islamic Perspective” and was delivered by Sheikh Luqman Abdulrasag Al – Mubarak, Chief Missioner, Ansar – Ul – Deen, Igbogbo.

In continuation of its education support for its members, the Islamic organization also presented N100, 000 each to three students – Rukayat Lawal Ademola, 300 level student of Business Administration, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ibrahim Abd’Quadri Atanda, 300 level student of Mechatronics Engineering, LASUSTECH and Sulaimon M. Babatunde, 300 level student of Physics, University of Ibadan, as their bursary awards for the second year.

After receiving the honour, Rep. Benson commended the Anwar – Ul – Islam Movement for its contributions to Ikorodu and expressed his happiness to be identified with them.

Alhaja Jemilat Agbaje, President, Ladies Guild of Anwar – Ui -Islam Movement, Ikorodu Division and other chieftains of the Isamic organization presenting the award of excellence to Rep. Babajimi Benson at the 25th edition of its annual Ramadan lecture at the Ikorodu Town Hall on Sunday.

He congratulated members of the organization and the entire Muslim community in Ikorodu on the ongoing Ramadan.

He assured them that he would continue to identify with them.

Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Rural Development in his own remarks, described the Ramadan period as a holy month when God directed that Muslim should share love and compassion for others and also receive favour from Him.

He commended the organization for sustaining the annual event and for its contributions towards the development of grassroots, state and the country at large.

The Chairman, Men’s Guild of the movement in Ikorodu Division, Alhaii Shamsideen Alade Ganiu, thanked members of the organization for their support and initiatives in advancing the body.

He charged parents, especially mothers on the need to instill discipline and fear of God in their children to prevent them from being in a hurry to be wealthy, which is the root cause of many crimes.

He also enjoined Muslim organisations on the need to do more in supporting educational development of youths with scholarship and bursary awards.

While stating that it is the turn of Ikorodu to produce the National President of Anwar – Ul – Islam Movement of Nigeria, Alhaji Ganiu solicited for the support of the members for the Division’s candidate for the position.

Dr Taiwo Hassan, Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, General Hospital Ikorodu who was the Chairman of the occasion also commended the organization for the socio – economic developments in the state and the country.

The medical professional who was represented by Dr Rilwan Kamil, also charged Muslims to sustain the good deeds which God commanded them during the period of Ramadan after the fasting period.

The guest lecturer speaking on the topic said that the bane of Nigeria’s socio – economic challenges are the prevalence of power display over justice, unity and security.

He also pointed out that the over – reliance on oil and failure to diversify were other factors that accounted for the country’s economic woes.

While calling for justice, unity and adequate security in the country, the Islamic scholar also enjoined Nigerians to focus on local production instead of depending on imported items for consumption.

He commended Rep. Jimi Benson for his efforts in infrastructural, educational and other developments of Ikorodu Division, acts which he said stand the lawmaker out among others.
