A Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) worker has called out her bosses for allegedly underpaying staff, and not providing good working conditions.

The woman who made the allegations in a viral video on social media said that she was compelled to call her bosses out because of their inventiveness to the sweepers’ plights.

She said that they were being paid N30, 000 despite that their salary had been increased to ₦85,000, every month, adding that they are the ones that buy their work instruments without any support from

“Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, CEO LAWMA, we are calling you out and begging you sir. Mrs Folashade Kadiri, Head, Public Affairs LAWMA, Mr Oluwakemi Suleiman, Mr Kunle Adebiyi, Executive Directive of Finance, Mrs Modupe Opo, Mrs Jelilat Adeniran and other executives, we are calling you out to beg you.

“People should help us ask these people, because I doubt if they actually have blood running through their veins. What you are doing is absolutely wrong and bad.

“We understand that you are our bosses and without you, we will not be here, but it must also be noted that without us who are the sweepers too, you will not exist as bosses because we are the ones doing the job for you.

“You are always in your cozy offices and have no concern about us working on the road. We are the ones buying our tools like brooms. We are not given any allowances.

“We learnt that our salary has been increased to N85,000 since August 2024 as minimum wage, but our supervisors kept promising to pay the amount despite that things keep increasing every day. We are paying high prices for food items, fares and others”, she said.

The aggrieved worker continued in her lamentations in the video, “We buy brooms at N1000 each a month out of the N30,000 that you have been paying us. Is that not wickedness?

“Nigerians should please intervene on our behalf. We are being paid N30, 000 instead of N85, 000 that had been approved for us. For six months they have been paying us N30, 000 instead of the approved minimum wage and they don’t pay until the 13th or 15th of the following month.”

The sweeper also alleged they were only paid N10, 000 out of the N20, 000 approved by President Bola Tinubu for them monthly, adding that sometimes, only 10 or four sweepers will receive in a route monthly.

While stating that none of the workers is ready to speak out because of fear of being sacked, she stated that she cannot bear it again because of the enormous responsibilities on most of the workers who are single mothers and ordinary citizens.

She lamented the danger inherent in the job and how many of the sweepers have died in the course of their duty.

LAWMA has not responded to our reporter’s request to address the allegations raised by the worker.
