-Calls on LASG, Nigeria Police to unravel his death

An opposition party, African Action Congress (AAC), Lagos State, has called on the state government and the Nigerian Police, to commence a thorough investigation into what they alleged was a politically motivated killing of a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Tosin Onamade.
Onamade who was the Chief Executive Officer, Western Funeral Home, Ijede and a former aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency II seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly and also a former aspirant for the Ijede LCDA chairmanship position was brutally killed by his assailant(s) on Saturday.
In a statement today, issued by the State AAC General Secretary, Olatunji Jegede, the party condemned the way and manner that the APC has handled the death of Onamade so far and charged the Lagos State Government to ensure investigation is commenced to unveil his assailants.

“We, the African Action Congress, Lagos Chapter, commiserate with our Ijede Ward chairman, Comr. Mirinda Oluwafemi Onamade, whose brother, Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade, an APC chieftain and a strong contender for Chairman at Ijede, was murdered by yet-to-be-identified killers. At this trying time, we use this medium to condemn such brutal killing and commiserate with the Onamade family.
“It is sad that, despite Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade being a loyal member of the APC, they have yet to release a statement acknowledging his death, let alone sending condolences to the family.

“We are calling on the Lagos State government, through the state police command, to launch an investigation into the killing and bring the perpetrators to book. No stone must be left unturned, and there must be justice for the deceased and the Onamade family,” AAC General Secretary charged.
While recounting some of the many political battles faced by late Onamade and his refusal to allow some suspects that are in jail entered a plea bargain for the murder of one of his staff, AAC charged the Governor of Lagos, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu and the Nigeria Police in making the unfortunate death of Onamade the last of what the party alleged was a politically motivated killing in Ijede.

“We would like to notify the public that Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade, who was the Asiwaju Of Oke- Eletu, Ijede Ikorodu, had a party internal crisis that led to him losing one of his staff and sending his younger brother to a coma in 2021, after which he escaped numerous multiple murder attempts.
“This case, which has lingered since then till date, was at the point where he was told some of the culprits had approached the state for a plea bargain, which he rejected in October 2024, before he was killed on 8th March 2025. A family has been put into pain because some people feel they have the right to take another life, and justice would not catch up with them.

“Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade is not the first in Lagos, especially in Ijede, but his murder must be the last. The primary function of the government is to provide security for life and property. The act of thuggery, cultism, and hooliganism need to be curbed in the state, as citizens deserve to live in a society free of insecurity.
“We call on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Nigeria Police to get justice for Late Chief Oluwatosin Onamade, as this shall go a long way to forestall such events in the future. We want Lagosians to have peace of mind when carrying out their lawful activities without fear of being killed.”

The AAC also said that unraveling the gruesome death of Onamade would go a long way in stemming chaos during the forthcoming council elections:
“Moreover, as the local government election is about to start in the state, we cannot afford an atmosphere where chaos or crisis will be the order of the day. Lastly, every necessary action that is needed to be taken by the Nigeria Police should be taken to unveil the circumstances surrounding the death of the late Oluwatosin Onamade.
“Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade and his family must get justice for the existing cases and also for his assassination. A murderer and criminal should not be getting a plea bargain; if the Lagos State government, under Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the judiciary allow that to happen, then they are accomplices to the murder of Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade’s attempted murder, attempted murder of his brother, Oluwafemi Onamade, murder of his worker, destruction of his property, and finally, his murder.

“If one party has been ruling Lagos for over 20 years and the state maintains political thuggery, cultism and assassination, it should be clear to Lagosians that to end all this, we must change power from the centre. APC has to go for peace to reign in Lagos. The party is compromised and corrupt.
“Justice must prevail.”
Meanwhile, the Divisional Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ikorodu, Mr Femi Adinlewa, responding to the AAC statement, said that the police are handling the investigation.
“To the best of my knowledge, the Nigeria Police are investigating the matter according to the Police PRO. May the deceased’s soul rest in peace.”
