The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty (Oba) Barr. Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, has hinted that the Igbogbo Kingdom expect the intervention of the Lagos State Government in the rebuilding of the Adeboruwa Palace in Igbogbo.

He made the disclosure during the week when the Lagos State House of Assembly committee on Works & Infrastructures led by Hon. Desmond Elliot visited the palace during its tour of ongoing road projects in Igbogbo.

The palace which was originally built in 1905, has accommodated several monarchs of the ancient community before it was rebuilt in 2007 and was also given a facelift in 2016 by the Akinwunmi Ambode administration to prepare it for the coronation of Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali.

But over the years, there have been serious concerns over the palace which has been showing signs of distress. According to the monarch, the palace building has developed cracks in several of its parts.

“The palace that we are in is defective and also the residence that is attached to it has issues. I can say that we are managing to conduct the community affairs in a distressed building.

“The government has to intervene by helping us to rebuild the palace. We have been cautious not to run after the company that is constructing our road to ask them to also offer their corporate social responsibility, because we want them to finish the road,” Adeboruwa said.

THE IMPACT gathered that the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA authority recently planned to demolish the palace and start rebuilding, but there are concerns in some places that it may turn into another abandoned project since the current administration has just a few months to go.
