In a remarkable acknowledgement of his unwavering dedication to the growth and development of Ikorodu Division, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, the distinguished Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, has been named Ikorodu Man of the Year 2024 by Starlight Newspaper.
Rep. Benson’s series of transformative initiatives in 2024 have significantly elevated the socio-economic landscape of Ikorodu.
His legislative acumen is exemplified by the sponsorship of 58 bills, with five receiving presidential assent—bills that have had a tremendous impact on the overall development of Ikorodu Division and its people.
Beyond his legislative achievements, Rep. Babajimi Benson has been instrumental in infrastructural development across Ikorodu. He has facilitated the construction and commissioning of several pivotal road projects, particularly in the year under review.
In the realm of education and technology, Rep. Benson has championed the establishment of ICT centres, notably in Ikorodu and Imota, aiming to bridge the digital divide and equip the youth with essential skills for the modern era.
His commitment to community development is further evidenced by his proactive engagement with constituents, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs addressed. His Mega Empowerment Programme in 2024 stands out as arguably the most impactful in the division in recent times.
His dedication to his legislative duties has not gone unnoticed, as he was recently honoured as ThisDay Newspaper’s Rep of the Year, underscoring his contributions at both local and national levels.
The selection of Rep. Babajimi Benson for this esteemed award followed extensive consultations with a diverse array of stakeholders, including religious and community leaders, political figures, youth representatives, and everyday citizens.
The formal presentation of the award is scheduled for April 2025 at the prestigious Ikorodu Town Multipurpose Hall. This grand event is expected to attract a distinguished gathering of society leaders, industry captains, lawmakers, and political dignitaries from both state and federal levels, as well as esteemed traditional rulers.
Following today’s announcement, a series of daily unveilings will spotlight recipients of the Outstanding Personalities Awards, which recognise individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the social and economic fabric of Ikorodu Division throughout 2024. The Outstanding Personalities Award categories include Council Chairman of the Year, Youth of the Year, and Public Institution of the Year, among others. In an official statement, Prince Adedamola Aderibigbe, Publisher of Starlight Newspaper, emphasised the importance of recognising outstanding contributions to community growth. “Recognising and honouring those who tirelessly contribute to our community serves not only as a testament to their efforts but also as an inspiration for others to follow suit,” stated Prince Aderibigbe.
