The Chairman, House of Representatives Defense Committee, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has stated that the implementation of subsidy removal and the proposed tax reform of the new administration have made more funds available for developments.

Rep. Benson, who is representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in national assembly, explained the foregoing as one of the many issues that he addressed last weekend at the commissioning of the 3.6km Erunwen Road. He also said that the reforms have made the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to stop borrowing to pay for subsidy and the statutory body can now allocate more funds to the state and local governments in Nigeria.

The Erunwen Road which connects seven communities and the main Ikorodu – Itamaga Road, was facilitated by the lawmaker.

The federal lawmaker explained: “The money that has been saved will be used to develop Nigeria. I was with the Chairman, FIRS yesterday (last Friday). He actually called to thank me because of our stand on tax bill.

“If you count two people that stood firm on it in the parliament, I am number one or two.

“He called to say, JB (short form of Jimi Benson), help me thank your speaker. Our speaker was 100% positive on the issue too.

:He said that they usually borrow from banks in January to pay subsidy but this time around that the subsidy has been removed, they have enough funds.

“They have done VAT and all our chairmen, Adeshina (Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government) and others have received their payment, which was not the case before now, thanks to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he said.

Rep. Benson while sharing the news that he was honoured with Man of the Year 2024 due to his legislative abilities, assured Ikorodu residents that he would bring more developments home as his own award to the people that entrusted him with their mandate.

He also assured them that he would continue to deliver on the mandate and finish strong and make them smile.

“It is a shared glory because you are the ones that put me here. I will be awarding the apex chieftains of our party, members and every other person that are deserving because Ikorodu Federal Constitunecy that produced the highest votes in Nigeria must not suffer.

“So, on my honour, I promised to finish strong; I promise to make you happy; I promise to make your dreams turn into realities; I promise to make you smile and I promise to connect with my brothers, Hon. Kola Alabi and co and Mr Governor to make sure that Ikorodu Federal Constituency that we refer to as Miami of Nigeria, fulfil its full potentials. Thank you very much and God bless you,” the lawmaker enthused.
