Lagos Lawmakers Impeach Speaker Obasa -

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, former Lagos Speaker.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached.

He was removed from the office by 32 members and subsequently replaced with Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Miranda, the former Deputy Speaker.

Obasa was impeached for gross misconduct, high handedness and financial misconduct among others.

Hon. Femi Saheed moved the motion for the Speaker ‘s removal under matters of urgent public importance.

“In line with the provision of section 92(2)(c) of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I, hereby, move that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, RT. HON Mudashriu Ajayi Obasa, be removed as Speaker of House of Assembly, for the following reasons:

“Gross Misconduct and poor leadership, including perpetual lateness to legislative sessions and meetings.

“High handedness and lack of regard for Honourable members at all times, intimidation and suppression of members, incuding pitching members against one another.

“Financial improprieties, misappropriation of funds and lack of transparency in his management of the House of Assembly’s funds.

” Gross abuse of office and privilege as the Speaker of the House of Assembly via authoritarian and undemocratic leadership style.

“Erosion of trust among honourables members due to unethical practices and inability to carry the majority of members of the assembly along in decision-making”, he said.

He added: “Resolved that the Speaker of the Lagos State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashriu Ajayi Obasa, be removed as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I so moved”.

Seconding the motion, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun, the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, said:

“I rise to second the motion of the removal of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashriu Ajayi Obasa, as moved by Hon. Femi Saheed”.
