COREN, NUC Teams Visit LASUSTECH To Access Programmes For Accreditations

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Monday, received the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the National University Commission (NUC) for accreditations of its programmes.

Both teams were received at separate periods by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, at the institution’s Council Chamber.

While COREN is the body which is empowered to regulate the practice of engineering in all aspects and ramification in Nigeria, visited for the purpose of assessing (and accessing) the resources available for the Engineering programmes in the University, NUC was in the institution for accreditation exercise for the Departments of Accounting, Actuarial Science of the College of Applied Social Sciences and Botany of the College of Basic Sciences.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Odusanya welcomed the team to LASUSTECH and pointed out that the university is pretty young and currently in its third year.

He stated that the exercise is a vision for generation yet to come and to set pace for the university to flourish. He assured the team of full cooperation from the Colleges and all staff involved in the exercise.

The visiting team was led by Engr. Prof. Christian Bolu from the Atlantic University, along with him was his team including members that will assess various departments; Engr. Dr. Habeeb Ajimotoken for Mechanical from UNILORIN, Egnr.Dr. James Ambafi for Elect/Elect from Federal University of Technology Minna, Engr. Prof. Manasseh Auta for Chemical also from FUT, Minna and Engr. Solomon Iyeke for Civil from UNIBEN.

Others were Engr. Prof. A.A Balami for Agric & Bio-resources from FUT, Minna, Engr. Prof Niran Oluwaranti for Computer from University of Ile-Ife, Engr.Dr. Abubakar Jumare for Mechatronics from Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, other members of the teams are Engr.John Joshua(Co-coordinator), Engr.Precious Onuoha (Registrar’s representative), Mr.Iror Aondowase (Secretary) and Engr. Samuel Akinnowo from the COREN Office in Lagos.

The COREN team leader in his remarks appreciated the University for the hospitality displayed since the teams’ arrival and stated that the motive behind the visit was to make sure that measures are in place for a successful running of the engineering programme.

The NUC team assessing the institution for Accounting programme was led by Prof. Ignatius Ironkwe, while other members include Prof. John Ohaka and Mrs. Chiamaka Adebayo. On the other hand, the team assessing the Actuarial Science department was led by Prof. Idemobi Ellis, and his team members are Prof. Galoji Shehu and Mr. Otuya Chinedu.

The Botany team was Led by Prof. Taiga Akpovughaye and his team members are Prof. Iyabode Kehinde and Mr. Bayero Ibrahim.

Speaking during the parley, Prof. Odusanya assured the accreditation teams the university had made all preparations to get the departments accredited with full cooperation of the staff and students. The meeting was attended by Principal officers including the College Deans, the HODS, and other members of the departments.

The NUC team expressed appreciation for the hospitality and stated that they came for evaluation of the university programmes, emphasizing the importance of assessing the departments to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.
