-Says Selewu Road will be flagged – off November 10
Residents of Olu – Odo and Adegbose communities have been assured of timely completion of the construction of the major road into their residential areas which was facilitated by the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Benson.
While stating that the Olu – Odo Road is a standard one at the flag – off of its construction at the weekend, the three -term lawmaker also revealed that the Selewu Road will be flagged – off for construction on December 10, 2024.
Rep. Benson was represented at the flag – off by Builder Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA and Mayor Muhydeen Sanwoola, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Park Management and the Director – General, iCare Foundation, the operational group of the lawmaker.
“We are to flag – off the construction of Olu – Odo Road facilitated by your representative, Hon. Babajimi Benson, who has been using the mandate given to him to bring back dividends to you. He has facilitated the construction of over 70 roads. These are roads that are not 100 or 200 metres roads, but roads that are lengthy ones.
“One of those roads is the ongoing construction of Igbogbo/Offin/Oreta Road which is 14.3kilometres, whereas, Ikorodu to Ojota is 14.6kilometres.
“By December 10, the Selewu Road will be flagged – off. The construction will start from the Selewu Junction to Olumo and Ire.
“There are other road projects completed and ongoing at Maya, Ijede, Imota, Ikorodu West and Ikorodu Central and Isiu.”
The address by Builder Daini further elaborated, “This road project will start at Olu – Odo junction down to Igbo – Agbowa Junction and link the one being built by the council from Nichemtex Industries and the infrastructure will be like a ring road.
“The construction will extend into Lajo a bit to open up the road to Lajo”, he said.
He said that all the illegal shops and kiosks at the Olu – Odo Junction and others along the road will also have to give way for the construction.
“As agreed with Baale, CDA leaders and other stakeholders, all the illegal kiosks built on both sides of Olu – Odo Junction and also those ones on the right of way, will have to give way because they will be obstructing construction.
“This is not to create hardship for anybody, rather, we want to bring development into Olu – Odo and we cannot have such illegal kiosks on the road.”
The council boss assured the residents of Olu – Odo that the project would be completed in good time, stating that the lawmaker has history of completing all his projects within schedule.
“The road project is a standard one with drainage system on both sides and it will have streetlights”, he said.
Builder Sesan Daini also announced that a project monitoring committee would be put in place and be made up of representatives from Hon. Benson, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, CDA, the contractor and others. He added that the committee will monitor the progress of the project
Mayor Muhydeen Sanwoola, enjoined residents to be in celebratory mood because there is an end to the enormous challenges that the road has posed to them.
He appealed to the residents to accept and see the project as theirs and also solicited the support and cooperation of the youths with the contractor.
He said that the project committee will assist in getting feedback from the community that the project is meant to serve.
When completed, Mayor Sanwoola said that the road will change the economic and social lives in the area which the deplorable road has adversely affected for years.
At the flag – off were Baale Olu – Odo, chieftains of Community Development Associations (CDAs), stakeholders and residents.
