2024 Igbogbo Day Kicks – Off With Special Traditional ‘Iwure’

The 2024 Igbogbo Day Celebration officially kicked – off today with special traditional prayer ‘Iwure’ by the traditional institution and blessings by the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I.

At the event organized by the Planning Committee of the Igbogbo Day Celebration at the Adeboruwa Palace were Awopa, Eleluku, Alagemo, Oloro -Abosan, Oloro -Merin, Oloro Olu – Odo, Onigunuko, Orisha -Nla, Igunfolabi Olorisha Yewa, Olorisha Oshuntade (Agunfoye) and Olorisha Obaluaye (Igbe)

Others were Aborishade Olomitutu, Olorisha Oshundemilade, Elegun, Oniyewa, Ologun, Alasha, Wonpari, Abilefo, Elewe Omo and Aborigines among others.

Each of the groups took turn to pray for Igbogbo, Adeboruwa and his chiefs, planning committee and for the success of the 2024 celebration.

To flag – off this year’s celebration, Adeboruwa led other chiefs and the planning committee members in releasing pigeons which signified the commencement of activities; peace and harmony throughout the celebration.

At the end of the prayer, the traditional Olorin Oro group led by Barrister Shotomiwa, entertained the Adeboruwa – in – Council and audience with traditional Apepe songs.

In his royal blessing, Oba Kasali, thanked the Igbogbo Development Association (IDEA), the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, traditional groups, council representatives and residents that were present at the special prayer.

He prayed for a successful celebration this year and charged residents to support the planning committee in attaining its goal.

Mr Balogun Titilope, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee 2021-2024, said that the significance of the prayer is to receive blessing from the royal father and the entire Igbogbo community:

“Well, the significance of Iwure is to pray and get blessings, so that the journey that we want to embark upon will be pleasing GOD and we will be successful. We also use the occasion to pray for our donors to have resources to support us.

It was also an avenue for us to pray for success in our programmes and seek God’s favour for everything that we will embark upon.”

The planning committee chairman who said that numerous programmes have been scheduled for this year’s celebration, also added that the ground breaking ceremony for the Igbogbo Civic Centre is the main focus for this year’s celebration.

The ground breaking ceremony is slated for Saturday, November 23, 2024.

In his own remarks, Alhaji Sulaimon Ayokunle, Treasurer, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, said the event signifies the beginning of the 2024 Igbogbo Day Celebration.

Meanwhile, the celebration continues today (Friday) with a special Jumat prayer and the Public Service Day at the Rotary Centre, Igbogbo.
