The Chairman of the Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, has assured the teeming civil and public servants in Ikorodu that the organisation would assist in reviving the Ikorodu Public Service Forum.
Erogbogbo described public/civil servants as the engine room of governance, promising that when revived, the forum would assist in fostering networking and continuous development among its members.
Asiwaju Erogbogbo, made the pledge while speaking at the Public Service Day, which is part of the activities commemorating the just concluded 33rd edition of the Ikorodu – Oga Carnival at the Town Hall on Friday.
At the well – attended event chaired by Mr Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Lagos State, were dignitaries such as Alhaji Amusa Jomuken Afolabi, Executive Secretary, Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Ikorodu Local Government who was honoured with the IKODASS Pillar of Education Award.
Other public/civil servants honoured with Excellence in Public Service Award were Mrs Akintola Adebime Adepeju, Council Manager, Ijede LCDA; Mr Owolabi Abayomi Kamson, Board Secretary/Director, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS); Mr Babatunde Saheed Abiodun, Council Manager, Ayobo – Ipaja LCDA; Arch. (TPL) Alimi Jamiu Olanrewaju and Prince Gbadebo Taofeek Oluwafemi, FCNA, State Chairman, Lagos State Judiciary Staff Union.
“Today, we celebrate the annual Public Service Day which brings to the fore the critical role played by public service as the engine room of government and the principal facilitator in the delivery of the good governance.
“The Public Service Day primarily aims to highlight and appreciate the value and contributions of public institutions and the public service in the development of the community and nation’s building as a whole.
“This year’s celebration should be used to refocus public servants on the changes within the division in order to sustain the momentum of growth and development.” he assured
|IKODASS as a body is poised to continue to strategically support the public service sector with capacity enhancing interventions just like it did with the teachers.
The IKODASS expressed the association ‘s goals: “In the same vein, we will encourage the revitalization of Ikorodu Public Service Forum to foster networking and continued development among Ikorodu public servants. I therefore enjoin you to rise to the occasion by proffering innovative solutions not only to present problems but proactively finding solutions to emerging challenges.
“I charge you, public servants of Ikorodu extraction, to be good ambassadors of your city and maintain the exemplary leadership for which we are known.”
The IKODASS Chairman also congratulated the award recipients and charged them to continue to exemplify the excellent services that earned them the award.
In his speech, Mr Damilola Olowoshago, the co – chairman of the day represented by Mr Murphy Owodeyi, Director, Management Resource, Land Bureau, commended Ikorodu for earmarking a day to celebrate the civil servants.
He pledged the support of his ministry for the civil servants and urged members to always approach his office for solutions to any challenges that they may be encountering.
Goodwill speech delivered by the mother of the day, Alhaja Basirat Akinsanya, who charged all civil servants that are Ikorodu indigenes and residents to be part of the Public Service Day, adding that the coming together must not be restricted to the Ikorodu – Oga Day Celebrations but also other avenues to make Ikorodu a better place..
She urged them to start considering have alternatives as regards coming retirement after service.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony were Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Sir Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu, Alhaji Monzor Olowoshago, Publisher Oriwu Sun, Mr Waheed Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Wasiu Olokunola, retired Permanent Secretary and Comrade Kehinde Okeowo, a former Chairman, NULGE, Ikorodu LG among others.
