Critical stakeholders that represented the Ikorodu Division at the public hearing of the House of Representatives on Monday, made strong position in canvassing for the establishment of an IBILE Entrepreneur University to be located in Ikorodu.
The stakeholders from Ikorodu, attended the hearing on the invitation of Rep. Babajimi Benson, representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
The bill to create the university was sponsored by Rep. Babajimi Benson (APC, Ikorodu Federal Constituency) and Rep. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, PhD., (APC, Ajeromi/Ifelodun Federal Constituency).
The bill passed through the second reading on Wednesday, October 2nd, before it’s commital for the public hearing.
Presenting the Ikorodu position at the hearing in Abuja – Dr Olumide Metilelu, former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Barr. Saheed O. K. Shillings, former Chairman, NBA Ikorodu branch and Dr Ganiu Agbaje, former Director, National Airspace Management Agency, who represented the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), submitted well – researched papers to the House Committee on University Education for further legislative action.
In his presentation, Dr. Metilelu said that the university is necessary to accommodate candidates applying annually for university admission but which bulk of them have not been admitted because of the capacity of existing universities.
The former NBA Chairman, Barr. Shillings, in his own presentation, said that establishing the university will help produce entrepreneurs that would develop the Nigerian economy.
Dr Agbaje, in his own presentation, was of the view that the university would assist in practical implementation of researches on entrepreneurship and how to develop the economy.
