2024 edition of the annual Ikorodu – Oga Festival kicked – off at the weekend with one of the pre – festival events – Walk for Fitness which witnessed large turnout of residents.
The exercise, which is one of the activities that usually herald the celebration, is designed to sensitise residents on the importance of fitness, and create awareness for the celebration.
The crowd moved from Ikorodu town hall through Olubi Street to link Ayangbure Road, Ojogbe, Oriwu Road, Ita Elewa, Aga, Ireshe Road, Sheriff junction, Anibaba, Ota Ona, Itunpate, Alhaji Street, Onisigida, Sabo market, Ikorodu garage roundabout, Ojubode, Ayangbure Road and terminated at the Ayangbure palace where the royal father of Ikorodu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, welcomed and addressed the crowd.
Chairman, IKODASS, Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, thanked residents for turning out in large number for the walk, adding that the exercise is aimed at engaging them in physical fitness, while announcing the commencement of the 2024 Ikorodu – Oga Festival.
Erogbogbo promised that this year’s edition would be special and engaging.
While welcoming the IKODASS Chairman, his executives and the crowd that participated in the fitness walk, Oba Shotobi said that the association is delivering on the responsibilities given to it by the community.
He commended the crowd for engaging in the fitness exercise at the commencement of the 33rd edition of Ikorodu – Oga Day.
“This is the beginning of the exercise for Ikorodu OGA 2024, and we started it in a very bright way”.
Mrs Omobolanle Osho, a participant, described the exercise as commendable and a good way to start the year’s festival.
She said that such exercise is good to be engaged in for physical fitness.
In her own submission, Mrs Onilere Monsurat, who was attending the walk for fitness for the first time, said that she was excited about the exercise.
She added that she is expecting engaging activities during the celebration.
Mrs Temitope Jokomba – Bada, an executive member of the Nigeran Union of Teachers (NUT), commended the IKODASS Chairman and the entire executives for sustaining the Ikorodu – Oga festival’s tradition.
A resident, Mr Alex, said that the exercise was full of fun and well – organized.
He charged IKODASS to continue to use the celebration to bring indigenes and non – indigenes together, to promote unity and development.
