UNILAG Int’l Week: LASUSTECH Charges Varsities On Digital Transformation Strategies

Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, VC LASUSTECH

The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, has disclosed the need for higher institutions to embrace digitisation of their activities, saying digital transformation has become a must in this digital era.

Speaking as one of the panelists at the 4th UNILAG International Week & 17th Annual Research Conference, the VC stated that digital transformation is a strategy that enables universities become more efficient and productive.

The panel dissected the theme of the conference “Inclusive Digital Transformation and The University Promises” with relevant references to the role and importance of digitisation.

“It is more than adopting machines or technology at work. It seeks to move from manual or paper based operations to electronic ones.

“All operations of the university from admissions, lectures, results processing, financial transactions and human resources operations can be digitalised.

“It includes development of local content and applications relevant to the university’s operations. At LASUSTECH, digital transformation is taking root in several aspects including teaching and research.”

However, Prof. Odusanya analysed the challenges facing digital transformation which, according to him, include adequate funding, sufficient manpower, access to data and adoption of relevant technologies.

“The opportunities for taking digital transformation are abound. The quantum of energy available in the young persons who are students is huge. Thus, the university will continue to harness thorough training, incentives and skills acquisition,” he said.
