The representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has called on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu to ensure that his government completed some major roads in Ikorodu, which have been on for about eight years.

Rep. Benson said that the failure of the LASG to complete the Igbogbo – Bola Tinubu – Igbe Laara; Agric – Ishawo and Gberigbe Roads, is overshadowing the developmental efforts of the government in Ikorodu.

The three – term lawmaker made the call on Monday at the flag – off ceremony for the construction of a 40 – bd trauma centre that he facilitated at the General Hospital Ikorodu. The State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, whom the federal lawmaker commended for his brilliance and efforts in the development of Ikorodu and Lagos in general, performed the flag off.

“I have known the Deputy Governor since when we did Census in Lagos State in 2006, when the federal government said that we have about 9million people in Lagos State but we insisted that we have 17milion people.

“He was the one that led the fight for the state to ensure that proper figure is ascribed to the state.

“At the time, a symposium was organized for us at the Muson Centre, and I saw this young man (deputy governor) churning out data and statistics to explain his points. I fell for him since then.

“The second time, he was the Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola, AN, on Works and Housing, and we were clamouring for the reconstruction of the Ikorodu – Shagamu Road. The contarct was given to a contractor who did poor job and we were asking for the job to be given to the Arab Contractors.

“He was instrumental to the approval of the reconstruction of the Ikorodu – Shagamu Road”, Rep. Benson said.

While commending the state government for constructing several inner roads in Ikorodu and also executing other projects, Rep. Benson added that the incompletion of Igbogbo – Bola – Tinubu; Agric – Owutu and Gberigbe Roads in Ikorodu, has overshadowed the government’s efforts.

He appealed that the administration of Mr Sanwo – Olu should ensure that the affected roads which have been on for several years, should be completed within time and compensation paid to residents whose properties were affected for the right of way.

“I have praised him and also commended the present administration in which he is serving as the Deputy Governor, for doing good job in Ikorodu, but their efforts are being overshadowed by two things that are yet uncompleted which are Agric – Ishawo Road and Igbogbo – Bola Tinubu – Igbe Laara Road and payment of compensations to residents affected by right of way on the two roads.

“The government is yet to complete the two projects. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has done several inner roads. Work is going on on the inner roads and there is also a market that the government is planning to build with billions of naira.

“The Lagos State Government of Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu is doing very well, let’s pray and plead with them to complete the construction of Igbogbo road and pay residents compensation for the demolished properties and also complete Ishawo and Gberigbe Roads”, Rep. Benson said.
