Former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ikorodu Constituency I, Barr. Ola Animashaun, has called out the management of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, for naming hostels after people who are still alive and some of whom are operating within the system.

Animashaun, a chieftain of the prestigious Oriwu Club, Ikorodu, who resigned from active politics some years back, expressed his disappointment towards the institution for the decision which he described as conflict of interests.

LASU had, in an online announcement for its hostels accommodations for students, listed available hostels in Ojo and Epe to include those named after the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and the Pro – Chancellor, Sir David Sunmoni.

Some of the others living personalities that the hostels were named after includes Hon. Wale Raji Hall and Hon. Tokunbo Wahab Hall.

According to LASU, available hostels in Ojo and Epe campuses are as follows:

Female Hostels in Ojo campus

  1. Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello Hall 1
  2. Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello Hall 2
  3. Professor Adenike Boyo Hall

Male Hostels in Ojo Campus

  1. Sir David Sunmoni Hall
  2. Professor Gbolahan Elias Hall

Female Hostels in Epe Campus

  1. Late Professor Jadesola Akande Hall (PDS)
  2. Professor Adeyinka Dipeolu-Okubena Hall

Male Hostels in Epe Campus

  1. Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun Hall (PDS)
  2. Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun Hall
  3. Hon. Wale Raji Hall
  4. Hon. Tokunbo Wahab Hall
  5. Professor Elkanah Oyetunji Hall

Reacting to the advert placement on the Facebook, Barr. Animashaun wrote:

“You would have thought that universities would do things differently by doing the right thing, but no.

“Why name halls of residence after people who’re still very much alive and also operating in the system?

“Who suggested that halls be named after both the current vice-chancellor and pro-chancellor?

“Where were the two of them when the decision was being made by the university council?

“What are they memorialising?”, he asked.

While describing the decision as a conflict of interest, Animashaun charged the institution to always show good examples.

“Conflict of interest! The people at LASU can do better”, he said.
