-As Ikorodu federal rep announces facilitation of N1billion infrastructures for the school
The proposed 500 – seater ICT/CBT Centre for Oriwu Senior and Junior Colleges, Ikorodu, received a boost on Saturday, as the Chairman, MultiChoice Nigeria who also doubled as the Chairman, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, and the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Defense, Rep. Babajimi Benson, pledged their supports.
Their supports, alongside that of others, were announced at the grand finale of the Oriwu College at 75 anniversary/Award Dinner & N100million fund raising for Oriwu College ICT/CBT Centre, held at the Ikorodu Town Hall on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
The project was initiated by the Oriwu College at 75 Anniversary Planning Committee, and will be handled by the Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN).
The 3D presentation of the centre was presented by Mayor Muhydeen Sanwoola, the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Park Management who also announced that Rep. Benson has facilitated over a billion worth infrastructures for Oriwu College, Ikorodu.
“The proposed ICT/CBT Centre is a very necessary step in pushing Oriwu College to an international stage. The ICT will prepare the students for what they needed in the future.
“STEM education has been making way in the last ten years, unfortunately, most of our public schools don’t have access to the facilities.
“Oriwu College is going to get one courtesy of the 75th year anniversary celebration’s committee. They are proposing 500 – seated ICT Centre.
“That centre will host the ICT and CBT centres. This centre is top of the line ICT Centre, and it requires a lot of infrastructures to take it to the state where it should be.
“I am very happy that this is happening in Ikorodu, and I am also very happy that Hon. Babajimi Benson is also going to be a contributing factor to this and the message he sent to me and the way he asked me to present it, he said that I should direct it to Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, that he is happy with his contributions to Ikorody and that this is a project for the development of Ikorodu and that he is really happy to follow his footsteps”, Mayor Sanwoola said.
He charged all the guests and old students to support the ICT/CBT Centre.
Announcing the infrastructures facilitated by Rep. Benson, Mayor Sanwoola said:
“In view of that, he said that I should announce that he has facilitated a N1.4billion infrastructures coming into Oriwu College from the UPE Education Funds which will take care of:
“Construction and Equipping of Modern Classroom Building; Construction and Equipping of a Male Hostel; Rehabilitation and Equipping of School Clinic Building; Construction of Administrative Building and Provision of 40kva Solar Power System.
“This could turn the school into a great educational force in Lagos State”, he said.
Mayor Sanwoola, who is also the Director – General, iCare Foundation, the operational arm of Rep. Benson, also announced that a bill sponsored by the third – term lawmaker for the establishment of IBILE University to be located in Ikorodu, has passed through the second reading.
“Going forward, the bill on IBILE University has passed through the second reading. It is going to be sited in Ikorodu.
“The icing on the cake is that he is also looking at bringing an Aviation College, because the Southwest does not have any. The existing Aviation Colleges are in Zaria and Abuja and if God wills, may be we can site that in Ikorodu as well”, he said.

Speaking, Odofin Ogunsanya, who chaired the grand finale of the anniversary event, pledged his support towards the project, but silence on the amount. He, however, promised to communicate his donation to the OCOSAN National President.
Chairman, Oriwu College at 75 Anniversary Planning Committee, Mr Abiodun Abari, who said that the committee was announcing the project at the grand ceremony to surprise the old students, charged various class sets of the Oriwu College Old Students Association (OCOSAN), to be ready to support the project.
