Mrs Adedoyin Kukoyi, a TV and Radio personality, event anchor and an actress, has said that her alma mater – Oriwu College, Ikorodu, made her what she is today.
Kukoyi, who anchors ‘Gbajumo Osere’, a popular programme on Africa Magic Yoruba Channel on DSTV/Gotv, is one of the many important personalities that graduated from the premier college in Ikorodu Division. She was also in attendance at the, ‘A – Day with Oriwu Students’, an interactive session organised as part of the activities lined up to mark the 75th anniversary of the old school.
The presenter, who wore her former school’s uniform just like other old students that were in attendance, described her experience while in school as shapping.
She spoke with THE IMPACT at the event that took place at the Oriwu College hall on Wednesday, September 2, 2024.
“My experience at Oriwu College was amazing. It was beautiful. It was mind blowing and it was shaping for us. What we decided to do back then was for us to be focused to know exactly what we want to pursue in future and that really helped us; shaped us and made us what we are today.
“I have done a life video earlier today and I said to everyone that whatever the brand that they are seeing today started from here (Oriwu College). This was my root and where the whole knowledge of me being an entertainer, broadcaster and all of that, started from and I am super great for that.
“The opportunities that were given to us back then; the training, teachings, lectures and the upbringing that we had. That is we what are imbibing, that is what we are working with and that is what is still shaping this brand”.
She recalled her efforts in grooming her juniors back then in Oriwu College, which resulted in the formation of the Young Ones Group.
“A very memorable one that I will probably not forget in a long time was when I started the Young Ones, a social club in the school. I think I was in my final year and I went looking for students from JSS 1, 2 and other classes, and I brought them together.
“Through that, we were involved in Literary and Debating Society, drama group and all of that. Today, I can see a lot of them are fathers and mothers and they are doing very well in their chosen fields, and I am just super grateful”, she said.
The TV personality, who is a well known media personality across the country, also charged government and Ikorodu community on the need to further develop and impact positively on the students.
“My message to the state and local governments, as well as Ikorodu community, is that they should help the school’s development. Right from here is where you get the raw talents.
“Let’s put in more efforts in helping and investing in this young stars, because they will definitely be the leaders of tomorrow and whatever we train them for right now is what they would take into the world and that is what would help Ikorodu as a society, community and as a people”, she said.
