The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adeotkunbo Abiru, FCA, has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast, hopeful and resilient in the face of challenges the nation is facing, stressing that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
In his Independence message, Senator Abiru advocated that Nigeria’s diversities should be a source of unity and progress, urging Nigerians to shun all divisive rhetoric, and intolerance towards fellow countrymen.
Abiru, who is the Chairman, Southern Senator Forum and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, further appealed to Nigerians to show greater understanding for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as the government pushes through inevitable, tough , economic policies for the betterment of the country.
While acknowledging the socio-economic discomforts that majority Nigerians are facing, he expressed optimism that economic prosperity and social stability await Nigerians in the foreseeable future.
“Today, I join fellow Nigerians in celebrating the 64th Independence of our great country. Despite the challenges we face—whether economic, social, or political—Nigeria remains a beacon of hope and progress in Africa.
“Our strength lies in our diversity; our unity is our greatest asset. We are a nation of over 250 ethnic groups, speaking over 500 languages, yet united under one green and white flag.
“These clearly underscore why we should strengthen our unity, shun actions that will further widen our national faultlines and contribute to nation building.
“I empathise with many Nigerians who are currently facing tough times, as a result of certain economic policy decisions of the Federal Government, under the leadership of our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“I seek your understanding as the government pushes through these tough but inevitable policies that are geared towards restoring our nation on the path of economic sustainability and prosperity.
“These policies reflect a clear understanding that, to avert an impending collapse, bold and courageous steps have to be taken. President Tinubu’s leadership at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history is a testament to his vision and resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s future, even when such decisions come at a significant cost in the short term.
“Dear fellow compatriots, this is not the time to give up on our country. It is, however, moments like these that our resolve, our patriotism, and our shared sense of purpose must be unwavering. Together, with determination and a shared commitment to the future, we will rise above our challenges and build the Nigeria we all desire”, he said.
