The much – awaited milestone celebration of the 75th anniversary of the premier college in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, Oriwu College, Ikorodu, will commence on Friday, September 27, with a special Jumat prayer.
The celebration is scheduled to hold between Friday, September 27 and Saturday, October 5, 2024, which will be the grand finale/award dinner/N00m fund raising for the Oriwu College’s ICT Facility.
The celebration is themed, ‘Journey Through Time: 75 Years Of memories & Excellence’.
According to a statement released by the Board of Trustees (BOT) and National Executive Council (NEC) of the Oriwu College Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) and the Oriwu at 75 Anniversary Planning Committee, there will be anniversary tree planting, an initiative aimed at significantly marking the anniversary on the same day.
Walk for Fitness/Class Sets’ Day (social interaction) follows on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The walk will commence 7am at Oriwu College.
During the Walk for Fitness, old and current students will embark on a procession round major roads within the Ikorodu township, and visit important places that had hosted the school at different times before it was finally move to its present location which is the permanent site.
On Sunday, September 29, there will be a special Church Service at the school chapel and another round of anniversary tree planting session within the school premises.
Monday, September 30, is dedicated to visitations to the palaces of the traditional rulers – Ayangbure, Adeboruwa and Sekumade.
A Day with the current students/unveiling of the 75th anniversary project, is slated for Wednesday, October 2. The event is scheduled to hold at the college hall. Old students are expected to attend the ceremony in their old school uniform or blue on white attire.
The grand finale of the 75th anniversary celebration/ dinner and award & N100million fund raising for the Oriwu College ICT facility, is slated for Saturday, October 5, at the Ikorodu Town Hall. The Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom and Chairman, MultiChoice Nigeria, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, will chair the occasion.
Also expected at the grand finale are the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli – Balogun, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and traditional rulers in Ikorodu Division as well as other important guests.
Oriwu College was established in May 1949, and clocked 75th on May 29, this year. The premier college has, over the years, produced many great and eminent individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity in general.
The school has also, over the years, achieved and sustained academic excellence and outstanding achievements in socio – cultural and other aspects of education, at the Local Government, District, State and National levels.
