The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, in partnership with Sterling Bank, is set to host the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration, themed “Tourism and Peace”.
The annual event, according to the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka underscores the vital role of tourism in fostering peace, unity, and cultural understanding across the globe.
The celebration scheduled to be held at Muri Okunola Park on September 27, 2024, promises an engaging lineup of activities, including panel discussions with industry experts, vendor exhibitions, and a vibrant showcase of traditional music and cultural displays that will highlight the rich heritage of Lagos and Nigerian culture.
The Commissioner emphasised that tourism serves as a powerful tool for promoting peace – not only through economic development but also by creating opportunities for cultural exchange and fostering mutual understanding.
Her words, “This year, we are proud to partner with Sterling Bank to celebrate this significant occasion and advance our vision of peaceful and inclusive tourism”.

The day’s activities will feature an interactive panel discussion on the theme “Tourism and Peace”, where industry leaders will delve into the connections between tourism, peace-building, and economic growth.
Attendees will also have the chance to explore local vendor stalls offering artisanal products and cuisine, alongside live performances of traditional music, reflecting the cultural diversity of Lagos.
