The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has assured aspirants for the 2025 Local Government Elections, that those that will eventually emerged as Councilors and Council Chairmen across the state will be the choice of the people.

He also warned that the party candidates must be ready to work with the leadership of the party.

Ojelabi, who also said that there will be free and fair primary elections within the APC, to chose the party’s candidates, also charged aspirants for the political offices in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA, on the need to examine themselves very well to know if they are capable of matching the performance of the outgoing chairman, Builder Sesan Daini.

The APC State Chairman spoke on Monday, at the commissioning of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Legislative & Administrative Complex, named after the former Secretary to the State Government, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun.

“The local government election is fast approaching, and Daini has laid a foundation and whosoever that wants to come after him will need to examine himself very well to know if he will be able to wear the shoes that he will be leaving behind and meet up with his performance.

“Let me say this, you have to work with the leadership because manner will not fall from the heaven. We rely on the leadership to guide us. We will not sit at ACME (APC state secretariat) and impose any candidate on you.

“Whosoever that want to be councilor and council chairman, under my watch as the chairman of the party, will definitely be from the people because we are going to organise a free and fair primaries where candidates will emerge to represent our party”, Pastor Ojelabi assured.

Speaking further, the APC Chairman emphasized that lots of responsibilities will be placed on those that will be elected as councilors in view of the Supreme Court’s recent judgment that established the independence of the councils from the state.

“Again, I want to say that with the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, we really need to buckle up and know who and who that we want to throw up. A lot of responsibilities would be bestowed on our councilors.

“I know that was what prompted the idea of this gigantic building (construction of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Legislative & Administrative Building) to make the legislative responsibilities at the local government much more conducive and attractive so that they will be able to discharge their responsibilities to the best of their ability”, he said.

Ojelabi also revealed that the committee setup by the party to assess the performances of the local government chairmen across the state, will soon begin their work.

“Once again, I want to congratulate the people of Igbogbo/Bayeku, the leadership, management, leaders, for what we are witnessing today and I make bold to say that the committee we set up across the three Senatorial District to move round and assess the performances of the local government chairmen, will be starting their work by the end of this month and l am sure when they get to Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, you will have something to present t them. I congratulate you”, he said.
