The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL), the security architecture in the division, has so far invested N500 million in ensuring that lives and properties of residents are well protected, since its creation in the last three years.

Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, Executive Secretary of the body, disclosed this at weekend during the presentation of scholarship and bursary awards to over 200 students across various public higher institutions in the country, by the group.

N30million was dolled out to beneficiaries who included indigenes and non – indigenes of Ikorodu.

The former Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Lagos State House of Assembly and immediate past Chairman, Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), while also announcing N10, 000 salary increment for the about 200 IDPIL operatives, added that the funds were generated through donations by individuals and corporate bodies.

“So far, we have invested over N500 million in private funds raised through the support of well-meaning individuals and corporate organizations within and outside Ikorodu Division, towards sustaining and maintaining our local security outfit.

“Today, cult clashes, land -grabbing activities and armed robbery cases have all reduced drastically, due to the commendable effort of our 150 fallen and well-trained local joint task force (LJTF) personnel. Similarly, we have continued the training and re-training of our gallant IDPIL -LJTF personnel.

“We have also collaborated with state -owned security agencies towards ensuring peace and security within and around our division.

Abiru also reiterated that the IDPIL operatives is known as ‘Idagriri Ekun’ which indicate a strong animal that usually hunts down its prey.

“During the commemoration of our 3rd anniversary recently, we unveiled the new identity of our local joint task force as “Idagiri -Ekun“. The choice of the animal, black jaguar, known as‘ Idagiri -Ekun‘ in the Yoruba language, as the icon of the new IDPIL-LJTF brand, underscores the nature and character of the animal in hunting down its prey, in a very tactical manner, uncommon to other predators. These unique characters are synonymous to the rebranded IDIPL-LJTF .

“To this end ,the IDPI-LJTF would now be known and called by a Yoruba name, ‘IDAGIRI-EKUN’, to further present the personnel of the security group as menace to the criminal element, wherever they might be hiding in any part of Ikorodu Division”, Otunba Abiru said.

At the ceremony, General Security Training Certificates in Security Techniques & Methodologies, were presented to the IDPIL operatives who completed their training at the Police College, Ikeja, in 2021.
