The umbrella body of youths in Igbogbo Kingdom, the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC), has issued guidelines for the election of its new officers slated for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

The electoral process starts on Thursday, August 15, with lifting of ban on campaign, while the sales of forms begins on Saturday, August 16, 2024.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of the IYC, stated this in a release signed Mr Toheeb Sanni, Chairman, Comrade Fathia Kolejo, Secretary and Mr Suraj Gafaar, PRO.

Offices available for contest are the IEC President, Vice President I and II, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Welfare Office, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and PRO among others.

According to the IEC, the guidelines apply to all candidates, as well as their campaign teams and supporters participating in the election.

While the sale of forms closes on Tuesday, September 10, submission of forms is on Saturday, September 15, and screening of candidates is fixed for Wednesday, September 18.

The IEC is expected to release the screening results on Thursday, September 19, and cleared candidates will present their manifestoes on Friday, September 20.

In the guidelines for the candidates and their supporters, IEC said that:

“All Candidates must be financial standing member of IYC, must be residents or indigenes of Igbogbo and must have attained the constitutional stated age.

“All campaigns must end 24hrs prior to the election date, all aspirants are expected to attend manifesto presentations with minimum of two (2) audience.

“Maintain high ethical standards in all campaign activities, the office of Vice president 1 is reserved for female.

“Candidates must have spent more than a year in the organization.

“Candidates and supporters must not spread misinformation or engage in online and physical harassment, failure to adhere to this might lead to disqualification.

“No campaign materials of any candidate should disparage another aspirant.

“Candidates, supporters and campaign teams must not post more than two (2) times in a day on the platform to maintain orderliness and candidates are advised to read the constitution”, the statement stated.
