6th Ikorodu Division Youth Summit: IDYI Sets To Host Tour, Business Support, Other Initiatives

The management of the Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI), a non – profit making organization committed to empowering young people through leadership development, advocacy, and community engagement, is set for the 6th edition of its annual Ikorodu Division Youth Summit.

For this year, the youth organization, which its mission includes amplifying the voices of young people and advocating for youth inclusiveness in governance, will be staging more engagement activities for the youths.

In a statement by the Executive Director, IDYI, Mr Oluwakeji Onabajo, the summit, which will hold between September 21st and October 1st, 2024, is themed, ‘Youth Catalysts: Fueling Change through Developmental Assets ‘.
According to Onabajo, this year’s theme underscores the crucial role that young people play in driving positive change by harnessing their developmental assets.

He stated that the summit will focus on equipping young leaders with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to effect meaningful change in their communities.

He also highlighted major activities that youths in Ikorodu Division, would be engaged with. Among these are: tour of historic and notable places, business support initiative, novelty match and the main summit on October 1st, at the Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu.

“Tour to the Source (September 21st, 2024): We will be exploring historic places across the Ikorodu division. History is sacrosanct to the development of the people.

“ln order to forge ahead, learn from past experiences and retrace our identity, it is important that we know our origin”, Onabajo said.

“Business Support Program (September 23rd – 25th, 2024): A three-day hybrid program designed to support young entrepreneurs in Ikorodu Division.

“The program will include virtual sessions on Human-Centered Design Thinking for Business, Business Canvas Creation, Sourcing Finance for Your Business, and Digital Marketing Strategies for SMEs. The final day will feature in-person networking and mentorship opportunities.

“Youth Novelty Match (September 28th, 2024): This sports activity is targeted at promoting Mental Health Education and a Peaceful Society amongst the youths in Ikorodu Division.

“We seek to bring together business executives, religious and youth leaders, entertainers and people from various fields of human endeavours for a joint effort for societal change. Every goal scored is a build up to unity and a peaceful co-existence in Ikorodu Division. Give praise to those who made the assist, not only to the goal scorer”, Onabajo said.

“Youth Summit (October 1st, 2024): The summit will be held at Ikorodu Town Hall, bringing together youths, community leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders. The day will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions focused on youth empowerment, leadership, and innovation”, he said further.

While announcing IDYI partnership with some youth groups and bodies, the Executive Director also called for sponsorship and support from individuals and bodies towards having a successful summit this year.

He charged youths across the Ikorodu Division, to register for participation.

“We are pleased to announce our partnership with several youth-led organizations, including National Association of Ikorodu Division Students, Ikorodu Students’ Association, Igbogbo Students’ Union, Ijede Students’ Union, Ikorodu North Students Union, Imota Students’ Union, Oshodi Arts Gallery, THE IMPACT Newspaper and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) which will provide facilitators for our Business Support Program and offer access to finance for young entrepreneurs”, he said.
