The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ikorodu Local Government branch, has joined the leadership of the union at the state level in appealing to youths in Ikorodu and Lagos State at large, to embrace dialogue with the government and jettison the 10-day protest.

The protest, tagged, #EndBadGovernance, started on Thursday, across the country.

Ikorodu NURTW branch Chairman, Mr Adegoke Taofeek, aka Reliable, made the appeal on Friday, while speaking with THE IMPACT, alongside the Chairman, Tricycle Operators, Ikorodu garage, Mr Ajibade Ogunsanwo, aka Omo Olowodikan.

They commended the NURTW State Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle aka Sego, for his leadership.

“As major stakeholders in the Nigeria agenda because of our roles , we are, again, appealing to our youths to shelve the ongoing protest which is gradually turning into violence. This is not good for the country at the moment.

“As advocated and canvassed by our state chairman, Alhaji Sego, our youths should embrace dialogue with the government and not allow themselves to be used by people with hidden agenda.

“We are aware of the pains, but the government is doing everything possible to provide succour and make the country run very well. Lets continue to dialogue with them and give room for progress and also desist from acts that will bring about destruction”, he said.

He commended Ikorodu youths for allowing reasoning to prevail by not joining the protest.

“I thank our youths in Ikorodu, for listening to us and the traditional rulers. It is commendable that they don’t participate in the protest, and I want to appeal to them not to join in everyone’s interest.

“The government is listening to us and they are doing everything to change things for good. Once again, I will appeal that we should give them room to effect necessary changes”, he said.

While commending the NURTW State Chairman for providing good leadership, Mr Adegoke also appealed to the government to continue to dialogue with the aggrieved youths and ensure that there is economic and social changes that would relieve the citizenry.

“I want to use this medium to commend Alhaji Sego, our state Chairman, for providing good leadership during this period. He led a team that visited us Ikorodu on Thursday, the day that the protest started, to appeal to our members and youths general.

“That is a positive steps and that is how he has been going round the state, and this has played a vital role in the relative peace that we are enjoying in Lagos. We, in the NURTW Ikorodu, commend him and thank him”, he added.

Mr Ajibade Ogunsanwo, also speaking with THE lMPACT, commended Alhaji Sego for his leadership, adding that he has been the sole reason members of the union are not joining the ongoing protest.

“It is unlike what we have been experiencing before now. His leadership is superb and that is why he came Ikorodu, on Thursday to ensure that our members are not part of the protest.

“He came to Ikorodu to identify with us and assured us that he will continue to support and make our operations seamless unlike what we used to experience.

“Sego makes everything easy since he has emerged as the state chairman, and he is the reason we are not joining the protest. We do not have any reason to be part of the protest, because he has shown us good leadership.

“He is making us feel better every day as transporters.

“We are also acknowledging those working with him like Inabiri, Cyan and his Personal Assistant, Lanre, for also relating with us very well and providing good leadership.

“I can’t recall the last transporters leave their homes happily to garage to go about their daily business, but that is what we are experiencing during this present Sego regime”, Ajibade said.
