History was made on Wednesday, as Elepe community under Igbogbo Kingdom in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, became a kingdom following the official installation of His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul-Ganiyu Adekoyejo Omotayo, as a traditional ruler.
Oba Omotayo adopted the title of Fidimolu of Elepe Kingdom and emerged as its first Oba after over 40 years as Baale.
In ensuring that the tradition is upheld, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Shotobi, joined by His Royal Majesties, Oba Semiudeen Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo , Oba Ajibade Bakare Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota, and Oba Abdul Hakeem Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom and accompanied by the Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Builder Olusesan Mayoku Daini, before the presentation of the instruments of office, exited the main arena with the new Oba, to perform necessary traditional rites in a secluded place.
The new traditional ruler, after about 30 minutes, emerged from the secluded room with the traditional beaded crown, horsewhip and other paraphernalia and was accompanied by his wife and the three Obas and the Council Chairman. His return to the venue thrown ecstatic large crowd into wide jubilation with the shout of “Alaiyeluwa”.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo –Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, presented the staff of office and certificate to the new Oba.
In his address, Commissioner Robert acknowledged the wide acceptance that trailed the selection of Oba Omotayo as the Oba of Elepe Kingdom, while also commending the Ijaolu Ruling House for the peaceful manner that they conducted their affairs.
While congratulating the entire people of Elepe, the Commissioner charged them and other major stakeholders in Ikorodu Division, on the need to support and rally round the new Oba in developing the new Kingdom.
He charged the new Kabiyesi on the need to protect and preserve the tradition and culture of the community and the maintenance of peace and unity among his people.
The Commissioner commended the His Royal Majesties, Oba Kabir Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Semudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa and the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), for their untiring efforts in ensuring that the new Kabiyesi emerged and installed.
Builder Olusesan Mayokun Daini, the Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, also speaking at the presentation of staff of office to the new Oba, said that the emergence of Oba in Elepe Kingdom, implies the continuation of traditional value of the people in his council.
He thanked the Governor of Lagos State, for the approval granted for the installation and the development in the state.
“Today marks a momentous occasion in the history of Elepe town in lgbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA. lt is with great honour and profound joy that I welcome everyone as we gather to witness the presentation of the staff of office to our new King”, he said.
“This event symbolizes the continuation of our rich cultural heritage, the affirmation of our traditional values, and the commitment to the progress and unity of our community.
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support and dedication to the development of our communities. Your Excellency, l also would like to express my sincere appreciation for approving the seat of the king of Elepe, after so many anticipated years. We are very grateful, Your Excellency”.
While congratulating Oba Ganiyu Omotayo on his installation, Builder Daini said that his emergence is a recognition of his lineage and leadership qualities.
“To our new King, Oluyemowo 1 of Elepe Kingdom, Kabiyesi Alayeluwa, l say congratulations on this well-deserved honor. Your ascension to the throne is not only a recognition of your lineage and right, but also an acknowledgment of your integrity, wisdom, and commitment to the service of our people.
“As you receive the staff of office, may it serve as a symbol of your authority and a reminder of the responsibilities that come with it”.
While describing the installation of the Elepe as a new chapter, the Igbogbo/Bayeku boss urged residents of the new Kingdom, to extend maximum support to the new Oba.
“Elepe town has a rich history, known for its culture, tradition, and resilience. I believe our new king will further preserve the heritage of our land and foster unity among our people, and also lead us towards greater achievements. Your reign marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that we believe will be filled with prosperity, peace and progress by God’s grace.
“I urge all the sons and daughters of Elepe, and indeed all residents of Ikorodu, to support our new king as he embarks on this noble journey. It is through our collective efforts that we can build a stronger, more vibrant community”, he said.
Other traditional rulers at the installation were His Royal Majesties, Oba AbdulHakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin, Oba Bashir Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba David Raji, the Eweye of Isiwu, and Oba Morufu Ogunnaike, the Alagura of Agura.
Also at the event were High Chief Alliu Musediq, the Regent of Ijede, High Chief Sotonwa, the Olisa of Ipakodo, High Chief Tajudeen Onasanya, the Odofin of Igbogbo, Osugbos, Erelus and other traditional chiefs.
Others were Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, former Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Wasiu Agoro, Chairman, Imota LCDA, Hon. Adeola Banjo, Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarninwa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development and Mr Waheed Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education among other notable politicians and eminent personalities.
