Baale Of Elepe, Omoba Ganiyu Omotayo Sets To Receive Staff Of Office As Oba

The stage is set for the presentation of a staff of office to the Oba – elect, Prince Ganiyu Adeboyejo Omotayo, the current Baale of Elepe in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, as an Oba.

The presentation of staff of office holds on Thursday, at the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Secretariat, Igbogbo.

The Oba – elect is from the Olutemowo branch of Ijaolu Ruling House of Igbogbo.

The new traditional ruler will be referred to as Olutemowo I, Fidimolu of Elepe Kingdom.

With the upgrading of the Baale to an Oba, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA now has three Obas, alongside His Royal Majesties, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, who incidentally is also from the Ijaolu Ruling house and Oba Richard Ogunsanya, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe.

Consequently, with this new addition, the total number of Obas in Ikorodu Division, is now 10.

Brief Profile of the Oba – elect:

The Oba – elect, Prince Ganiyu Adeboyejo Omotayo was born 3rd March, 1940.

He attended Anglican Primary School, Ijomu, Ikorodu. After his primary school, he went to Baruwa Architecture Institute, Ijoko, Sagamu in Ogun State.

After the completion of his training, he worked with an architectural firm in Sagamu between 1964 to 1967.

At the beginning of the civil war, Prince Omotayo returned to Lagos to live with his uncle, Mr Raheem Adeko who owns Raheem Adeko and Sons, a company that deals in paint and also has an hotel. In Lagos, he worked as his uncle’s manager between 1968 to 1973 and from there, he moved to Osinowo Transport, where he was also a manager between 1973 to 1975.

After working at Osinowo Transport, he left for Elias Transport and he was there between 1975 and 1976.

After that, the Oba – elect returned to Ikorodu and was engaged in business.

Oba – elect was a member of the Igbogbo Customary Court between 1983 and 1987. Meanwhile, he was installed as Baale of Elepe on November 3rd, 1978, from Olutemowo branch of the Ijaolu Ruling House of Igbogbo. He was the first Olutemowo.

Currently, he is the Chairman of the four ruling houses in Igbogbo and a member of the Ikorodu Chieftaincy Committee

Other branches of the Ijaolu Ruling House are Ipawo Oba, Emugoriade, Oyetade and Memolu.
