-Terrible state of road adversely affecting social, economic life – Orodoko family
Chieftains of the Orodoko Family of Liadi town in Maya area of Ikorodu, has appealed to both elected and appointed political office holders in Ikorodu, on the need to come to the aid of the thousands of residents residing in the area by constructing the deplorable road in the community.
They also called for assistance in the area of the provision of adequate security within the community to tackle the menace of cultism which, according to them, has been a serious concern to them.
Spokesperson for the Orodoko family, Barr. Quadri Abojukoro, made the appeal last weekend while speaking with THE IMPACT last weekend, at the family house at Liadi, on the issues affecting the family.
Abojukoro’s interview with THE IMPACT, coincided with the meeting/ceremony commemorating the five-year remembrance of late Chief Surakat Liadi Okanlawon, the former Baale of Liadi, with Chief Fasasi Rasaq O., Olootu (Head) of the Orodoko family, Chief Abdul – Lateef Agunbiade, Baale Liadi, other chieftains of the family and chieftains of the Liadi Community Development Associations (CDA) in attendance.
During the interview, Abojukoro complained about the terrible state of the road from Maya to Liadi.
“We are using this opportunity to plead with our representatives; from the Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, our dear brother and representative, Hon. Babajimi Benson who is representing us at the House of Representatives and our brother, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, they should, please, intervene in Liadi’s matter”, he appealed.
“There is no accessible road and its always difficult for us to move in and out of the community during the raining season. It is the same thing during the dry season. The residents are really suffering and we are counting on them to assist us.
“We are requesting their interventions to fix our road, because once that is done, the social and economic life would be positively affected.
“In the same manner, we are also appealing to Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, to help us in Liadi, because this is his primary constituency being a rural area. Likewise, we are also appealing to the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Bisola Olusanya, in this regard and other developments”, Barr. Abojukoro added.
The legal practitioner said that the area has huge electoral value which they have been using in favouring the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). As a result of that, he called for the intervention of the elected and appointed representatives to reciprocate their good gesture to the party, while also calling their attention to the need to establish a police station to improve the security situation in that axis.
“Our support at every election has always been for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and we are counting on them to come to our aid in providing us basic amenities and infrastructures in Liadi”, he said.
“In the entire Ward C4, the Liadi votes are always the best and they can confirm this. They should, please, come to our rescue.
“We want a police station to improve our security, because we are being troubled by the activities of the cult guys and other criminals. These are factors that are adversely affecting development in Liadi, aside from the issue of a branch of our family”, the family spokesperson appealed.
While establishing that the family is doing a whole lot to ensure development in Liadi, Barr. Abojukoro acknowledged the roles of the former Baale, Chief Surakat Okanlawon and others in the time past, in developing the community.
He assured that the Orodoko family will be working with the CDA in ensuring that there is development.
“The family is doing a whole lot about development of Liadi and we cannot speak about these efforts without mentioning our revered father, the late Chief Surakat Liadi Okanlawon, whom we gathered today for his fifth-year remembrance”, he said.
“The effort at development started with him and his brothers and we are doing everything to sustain this.
“If you are coming into Liadi from Maya, you will notice that there is a mini – water works and also a fruit factory at Gbaga, when you are going out of Liadi. Unfortunately, all these and others are now moribund and all our efforts to bring back these factories and other developments are being thwarted by members of the fourth branch of our family who are not cooperating with us.
“All our efforts to make the family one and ensure peace and stability, and use that to advance development for Liadi, have not been successful because of them.
“If you look around us today, you will discover that we have chieftains of the Community Development Association (CDA) among us to discuss developmental issues with the Baale, and also request for his availability when he or any other member of the family is needed.
“So, today, we are formally presenting the Baale that the entire family agreed upon, to them since the court has ruled against Mr Tajudeen Bamisedun.
“This is where we have been residing despite the fact that we are also full born of Ikorodu. Our ancestral home is Kusepori in Isele, Ladega in Ikorodu. It is still there but we are residing in Liadi to ensure that this place is also developed.
“It is in our best interest and that of the residents if we work together for its development and if we do not make concerted efforts to ensure this, it will be detrimental to us”, he said.
