-Starts empowerment programme next week
An Evangelist of The African Church Bethel Cathedral Church, Evangelist Oluyemisi Ilubanwo, has said that her birthday celebration this year is focused on empowering youths and others instead of throwing lavish party.
Evang. Ilubanwo, who is a retired matron and chieftain of the Ikorodu Division Women of Substance, added another year today and spent the day with youths and clergy men at the cathedral church where her birthday cake was cut without any fanfare.
Speaking with THE IMPACT, the retired matron said that she chose to use the money for merriment to empower youths of her church and others outside with bead making so as to give them an alternative earning, in other to cope with the challenging economy that the country is facing.
The bead making class is starting next Saturday at The African Church Bethel Cathedral, Aga, Ikorodu.
“I have decided that I am going to commemorate my birthday this year with empowerment programme for youths in my church and other interested groups that are interested”, Evangelist Ilubanwo said.
“This is what I have decided to do instead of throwing a lavish party. I decided to use the money to make impact in people’s lives.
“The empowerment initiative is for one month and it will be an opportunity for participants to acquire another skill and get extra means of earning.
“My interest is to make sure that I improve other peoples’ lives so that they will be independent and earn extra income to maintain their lives because if you look at the Nigeria economy at the moment, you will need to add something to what you are earning so that you will be able to be comfortable and have a good living condition.
“That is my own belief and that is why I am using my birthday to empower the youths and other group of people that are interested “, she added.
At the cake cutting in commemoration of Evangelist Ilubanwo’s birthday at The African Church Cathedral were Revd. Israel Adetola, Revd. Joseph Fapohunda, Ordinand Ayodele Funmilola, Engr. Sunday Oshin, Cathedral Warden, Mr Oluwaseyi Adelabu, former Cathedral Secretary, Mr Adekunle Bada, Pastor’s Warden, Mr Olumide Adelabu, Cathedral Choir Master, Evang. Oluwabukola Adelabu, Mrs Oyejolaa and others.
