As part of its efforts in impacting the community, the Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden, today, commissioned a sick bay at the Ansar – Ul – Deen Primary School, Igbogbo, for the use of pupils and staff.
The sick bay, which was equipped with necessary facilities and medical equipment by the Rotaractor Adeleke Aroyewun led administration, is part of the numerous school – based projects that have been delivered in the last few months that he became the President of the club.
Rotaractor Aroyewun, speaking at the commissioning, said that the project will be monitored, while stating that the facility is necessary at this period that there is outbreak of malaria disease.
“We are trying to impact our community and Ikorodu Division generally. We are trying to contribute our quota”, he said.
“We are not just making impacts, but we try as much as possible to clearfully outline such impacts to achieve the right purpose.
“When we came to this school, we got the need assessment of the school and we picked the sickbay as one of the most important needs of the school. Then, it was just an empty space with bed on the ground.
“We felt that was not befitting a school like this and also that the pupils would not have access to good first aid treatment, especially at a period that we are facing pandemic and epidemic.
“That was why we took steps further to meet stakeholders and we got a bed and bed stand, equipped the first aid box, fan for ventilation and chairs and table for attendance. Also, we provided waste basket to dispose used medical items and the pillow”, Rotaractor Aroyewun said.
While assuring the school of the club’s intension to monitor and sustain the project, Rotaractor Aroyewun also added that it is part of the Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden’s tradition to always ensure that succeeding administrations take it exiting projects and initiatives for such to achieve long term impacts.
“Like I told the Head teacher, this is not the end because we are not the type that does a project and just leave it, we want to ensure that the project fulfill its purpose and that it is properly maintained and whatever that we can still contribute to its longetivity”, he said.
“It is all about our sustainable development plans and that is what we are doing at the Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden. We have a succession plan that all that we have done and legacies are carefully sustained.
“After the expiration of the tenure of this administration, the next one will ensure that all our projects do not die or stop fulfilling there purposes”, he assured.
Rotaractor Abdullahi Hamzat, a former President of the club who also represented the District Rotaract Representative, Rotaractor Mojeed Abisogun Olamilekan, said that the project being commissioned is in tandem with objectives of the club and thanked the club for the initiative.
“Today, it is evident that we are here to commission what we stand for as a Rotaract Club. For the record for some who do not know what Rotaract Club is all about, it is the youth arm of the Rotary International Club from the ages 18 to 35”, he said.
“We deemed it fit to come together as a people, professionals and network and provide this beautiful facility to our pupils, because we too have passed through the cadre before we got to this stage.
“I want to specially thank the Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden for providing leadership and this kind of facility. One of the areas of focus of the Rotary International is maternal and child health. Congratulations to the Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden”.
The Chairman of the project committee, Rotaractor Fadipe Basit, speaking earlier, said that the club is giving back to the community through the project and ensuring good medical attention for the pupils.
“Rotaract Club of Ikorodu Golden is all about impact to our community and those around us. Our duty is to give back to our society and now, we feel that it is time to give back to our students”, he said.
“When we came to this school sometime ago, we realized that they are in need of a sickbay and with the help of the Presidents and other members of the club, we are giving this to the school so that the pupils can have access to healthcare”.
At the ceremony were Mr Adams, representative of the Executive Secretary, Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), lkorodu, Mrs Adebanjp Bolanle, Head Teacher, AUD Primary School and Mrs Ajayi, the Assistant Head Teacher, AUD Primary School.
