The Oluwo Amoju family, a branch of the Lantan Onanusi Chieftaincy Family of Agunfoye in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, has installed a new ‘Olootu’ (Family head) in person of Alhaji Wasiu Sanni Kasali from the Ajayi branch of the family.
Alhaji Kasali succeeded late Olootu Godfrey Mustapha from Aishatu branch of the family.
He was installed at the Lantan Onanusi Compound in Igbogbo, by Chief Jimoh Kosebinu Orepekan, a chieftain of the family from the lineage of the late Olootu, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in the presence of many elders, youths and friends of the family.
Mr Adewale Ashafa Adesina, the family General Secretary, speaking at the installation, thanked the family members for their cooperation, support, and also commended them for the peaceful emergence of Alhaji Sanni as the new Olootu Amoju of Lantan Onanusi family of Agunfoye, Igbogbo.
He thanked chieftains and members of Torobiowu and Saaogun branches of the family for attending the installation and rejoicing with them.
“The new Olootu, Alhaji Wasiu Sanni, deputized the former Olootu, Chief Godfrey Mustapha, and today, we are moving him into the substantive position as our family head”, he said.
“We are still going to call for a bigger installation ceremony, because this is just our own pronouncement and installation within our family. This is to prove to the public that we are peace loving people that do things properly.
“After this, other necessary ceremony and presentation would be done, including presenting him at the palace”, he added.
The new Olootu, Alhaii Wasiu Sanni Kasali, speaking after his installation, said that the Amoju family is a vast and important family.
“I am a son of Amoju from Ajayi branch. The Amoju family is a very big family with prominent sons and daughters. Amoju comprises of Layemi, Pelumi, Aishatu and Ajayi”, he said.
“Amoju was a son of Lantan Onanusi in Itun Pepedo, Igbogbo. The family has three branches – Torobiewu, Saaogun and Amoju who is the last born.
“Lantan has been the custodian of the Eleku deity which we have been preserving with the entire Igbogbo community”.
He thanked the family leaders and youths for believing in him and for their support.
Many of the family chieftains and members that attended the installation ceremony expressed their happiness and acceptance of the new ‘Olootu’.
Madam Adetutu Amusa from the Olayemi Oluwo Amoju branch, expressed her happiness over the installation of another family head.
Another elder of the family, Madam Laulat Bolarin from the Ajayi branch, also expressed her happiness over the installation and prayed that the new family head will reign for a long time.
Hon. Opeyemi Olusanya from Ijeni Torobiowu, said that the new ‘Olootu’ is a good family member who has done very well in Igbogbo community, as a whole and Agunfoye community in particular.
He wished him successful tenure and God’s guidance to lead the family aright.
Iyabode Omowunmi Okutuwo, another elder from the Ajayi Amoju, expressed her happiness for witnessing the installation of Chief Wasiu as the new family head.
Mr Fatai Owolabi of the Ijeni Torobiowu, commended the Amoju branch for agreeing on the new family head without any rancor.
“I am sincerely happy for the Amoju family for proving that they are a united and strong family, and for coming together to unite on the choice of Wasiu. I pray he reigns long and may our family continue to progress”, he said.
Also at the event to celebrate with the Amoju family was Alfa Kazeem Oshinlaja from the Saogun branch of the family.
Other members of Amoju family present at the event were Chief Shakiru Sanni (Ajayi Amoju), Mr Olugbenga Oduniyi (Ayisatu Amoju), Hon. Lekan Ashafa (Ajayi Amoju), Oyeniran Akinbule(Olayemi Oluwo Amoju), Mr Yusuf Sanni (Ajayi branch), Rasaq Idipoun (Saogun Lantan), Mr Idris Amusa (Ajayi branch) and Bashiru Hassan (Witness from Itun Abosan).
