A leading aspirant for the Vice Chairmanship position of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos East Chapter, Comrade Abubakr Asoro, has unveiled his plans for the Lagos youths, if elected.
Asoro, who recently completed his first term tenure and re – elected as the Coordinator, NYCN, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, recently took part in a two – week seminar in the Peoples’ Republic of China, courtesy of Hon. Babajimi Benson, member, Federal House of Representatives.
The youth leader unveiled his agenda for the Lagos East NYCN Vice Chairmanship position during a session on THE IMPACT platform.
The aspirant said that he intends to leverage on the local and international networks that he has been able to build over the years in his capacity as the Coordinator of the local branch of the NYCN, in implementing his agenda.
“Our agenda is called EASE (Education, Access to Opportunities, Social Awareness Programs, Employment and Empowerment).
“We intend to continue to leverage on the trust of International and local partners and stakeholders to achieve this agenda”, he said.
The young community developer and chartered arbitrator, said that he is poised to re – enact his impacts at the local NYCN level if given the opportunity to serve at the state level.
“My passion to serve is borne out of request of the young people in Lagos East to replicate the Ikorodu West achievements.
“This Clarion call has been easily answered, because we are blessed with political stakeholders who are readily available for young people”, Asoro said.
Speaking on his achievements as NYCN Coordinator, Ikorodu West LCDA, Com. Asoro said that his administration made impact in education, created employment opportunities and helped young people developed their talents.
“We have done our best in the areas of Education by providing more than 100 Free Jamb Forms to young people and we have successfully organized Free Jamb Class for three consecutive years for young people in Ikorodu West. This year, we had a full sponsorship from Yakojeun. It was a big one for us, because it saved us the stress of having to make contributions from our purse to make it work”, he said.
“Working with our partners, both in the private and public sectors, we have provided employment opportunities, both in private and public sectors.
“We have helped young people who have genuine businesses, to get soft business loan through the Lagos State Empowerment Trust Fund.
“Through the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation, facilitated by Hon Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, training and retraining have been provided for young entrepreneurs, while about 30 smart phones were provided for them to facilitate sales of their products on line.
“We began the Ikorodu West Award night to hunt talents, young artistes, models and to reward excellent. Today, the current Crown bearer of Miss Ikorodu-Oga had her first stint with us. She is currently doing good and earning lots of awards for herself in modeling and acting”, he said.
The re – elected NYCN Coordinator said that the opportunities provided by both local and international partners during his administration, were properly executed for the advancement of youths and the community at large.
“Through the trust built in us by international donors, we have executed about four grants provided by both local and International donors.
“We are the only NYCN local branch in Lagos State and perhaps Nigeria, that has executed such grant project from non governmental bodies.
“We appreciate our partners for making all these possible”, he added.
