A community leader and the former Commissioner for Information, Lagos State, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, KJW, has appealed to royal fathers and political leaders in Ikorodu Division to ensure that responsible and responsive individuals are allowed the opportunity as council Chairman and Councilors.
Elesho, who is the Agbaakin of Ikorodu Kingdom, made the assertion in respect of the coming 2025 Local Government Elections, while speaking on the attitudes of some of the Council Chairman in Ikorodu Division towards community especially their opposition to the existence of the Ikorodu Division Peace Limited (IDPIL).
The establishment of the divisional security architectural and developmental body by the royal fathers in Ikorodu Division, created so much controversies with the Council bosses stating that they are the only one that are constitutional empowered to manage security in their areas.
The former Commissioner spoke at the press briefing/rebranding of the IDPIL – Local Joint Task Force in commemoration of the group’s third year anniversary.
“Our fathers and political leaders must ensure that they entrusted political offices on individuals that are responsible and responsive in the coming council elections”, Otunba Elesho said.
“We don’t want individuals that will be telling royal fathers that their trouble is too much when he is been guided and ask to do developmental activities.
“If possible, let us ensure that they have oath with the community to assure us that they will not turn against the people
“Some of these office holders in our council have grown wings and I make bold to say this. I hope that they have listening ears if you talk to them. I am sure that some of them would listen to appeals, but others won’t. I am very sure of that”, he said with certainty.
Bashorun Babatunde Rotinwa, former Chairman, Lagos State Local Government Civil Service Commission and a chieftain of the IDPIL, had earlier at the briefing called for another of reconciliation to bring the Council Chairman on board.
“We really need to get the local government involved and I want to call on all the Kabiyesis to do a reconciliatory meeting and let us merge. Once that is properly established, we can bring on board the CDC and CDA because security is everybody’s business.
“We must make sure that everybody contributes something quarterly or annually. We need to educate our people and take the programme to them so that they would know what we are doing”, Bashorun Rotinwa said.
He charged royal fathers to spearhead the reconciliation with the councils.
