The abandonment of the Igbogbo – Bola Tinubu – Igbe Laara Road in Ikorodu Division, by the Lagos State Government, has continued to have adverse effects on the communities. This time around, it was a 10 – year old boy that lost his life.

Young Merit Siwoniku, a resident of Adesusi community, drowned at the Afa bridge where the HiTech construction company is constructing a bridge, but which has been abandoned for months and turned the spot into a death trap.

The Afa area, which has turned into a large river, no thanks to the abandoned construction and always heavily flooded whenever it rains, has caused residents of Igbogbo and lgbe community untold hardships.

THE IMPACT gathered that Merit, who was passing the flooded area with his brother on Wednesday afternoon, fell into the Afa river, while rescue efforts came too late for the poor boy.

The ugly incident, which has traumatized the Siwonku family, happened while the HiTech security man, who was stationed at the Afa bridge, was away.

A source within the community CDA said that when he was asked about his whereabout when the incident occurred, the security personnel said that he went to get lunch.

Unfortunately, sources within the CDA also informed THE IMPACT that policemen that usually stationed at the Afa bridge, were present at the scene when the boy fell into the river but allegedly claimed that they cannot swim.

By the time help finally came, it was too late as the young had given up the ghost. The remains of the boy was buried Thursday morning.

Mr Adeleke Siwoniku, was unable for comment as the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, residents of Igbogbo, Adesusi commuity and Igbe Laara, have, again, pleaded with Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, to ensure that the construction company resume work and save the community further deaths and other untoward occurrences.
