-Says Ikorodu will produce next Governor
The Chairman, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiatives Limited (IDPIL) and Odofin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, has expressed his appreciation for the commitment of royal fathers, chieftains and members of the IDPIL, which is the security architecture of the Division, and other stakeholders for their commitments and support for the development of Ikorodu Division.
Ogunsanya, who is also the Chairman, MultiChoice Nigeria, expressed his appreciations while speaking at the media parley at the IDPIL Secretariat, organized in commemoration of the 3rd anniversary of the IDPIL, on Tuesday.
The Senior Advocate of Nigerai (SAN), who said that the achievements of the IDPIL in the last three years is a collective effort, also threw his weight behind the clamour for Ikorodu for Governor come 2027.
“It is not true that Odofin (himself) is the one doing or contributing everything that IDPIL is doing. That is not true. It is not correct at all. Each and every member of the IDPIL contributes their quota”, he said.
“If I have to mention the contributions of each and every member, you will all realise that a tree cannot make a forest. I cannot but always thank Mr (Taiwo) Salami, a very strong man. These are the people doing the work and deserving of our recognitions at all time.
“Mr Salami, on behalf of everybody, I say a big thank you”, he added.
Ogunsanya also mentioned those that he called uncles that have also been assisting in creating the paths and make things happen at the IDPIL. Otunba Ogunsanya mentioned the likes of Col. Titi Onafowokan whom he described as a silent operator; Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, the Agbaakin of Ikorodu whom he said has wide network and is trustworthy.
Other IDPIL personalities mentioned by Odofin Ogunsanya were Bashorun Babatunde Rotinwa whom he described as his Chairman and Dr Oyebo whom he said his presence always inspires him.
“There are others that are not here. They all have work that they engage in after their retirements, but still created time to serve Ikorodu Division. I thank you all.
“I also want to thank Otunba Ganiyu Abiru. After God, it is him for the IDPIL. He’s totally committed and dedicated to the work.
“He has served and represented Ikorodu in many capacity as Chairman, IKODASS (Ikorodu – Oga Development Association), Permanent Secretary and in other areas”, he added.
He also thanked Baales, chieftains of the Community Development Committee (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) and the royal fathers that established the IDPIL.
“I thank you for always supporting us. I know some of you that are totally committed to the cause. God will continue to support you. There is nobody in this room that does not like and want development of Ikorodu. God will continue to strengthen you all.
“It is your desire to see Ikorodu developed and good things shall be said about you all when you are long gone.
“I also thank Lanre Olabinjo, the Comandant, IDPIL Operatives. A small man that is doing great things. Likewise, I thank all the operatives and our foot soldiers for their efforts.
“Lastly, I thank all the Kabiyesi in Ikorodu, from Ayangbure to Ranodu, Igbogbo, Isiu, Ijede, Ibeshe, Ipakodo, Egbin and Agura. I pray that they reign for long time and witness developments in Ikorodu”, Odofin Adewunmi said.
While stating that the Ikorodu Division is the focus of the IDPIL, Odofin Ogunsanya assured stakeholders that the Division would produce the next Governor of Lagos State.
“In IDPIL, we do not know Ikorodu Central, West, North, Ijede, Igbogbo and Imota, but what we are after is Ikorodu Division. We do not discriminate against any part at all.
“Ikorodu is Ikorodu and we are going to produce the next governor (of Lagos State). We are not going to fight over some people are from Imota or Igbogbo, but we are united as people of Ikorodu. That is how God has made it”, he said.
The IDPIL Chairman also revealed the intention of the group to build a bar centre for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikorodu branch, but for the lack of readiness of the association. He, however, said that the IDPIL will be willing to fulfil its pledge.
