The anniversary of June 12, which is now the Democracy Day in Nigeria, has been described as a symbolic celebration of national triumph and the country’s democratic journey.
Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), an aspirant for the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairmanship position, stated this in a statement on Wednesday, commemorating the Day.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, I wish you all a joyful and peaceful holiday. Today marks a significant day that symbolises our collective journey towards democratic governance.
“It is a symbolic celebration of the silver jubilee of our unfettered democratic dispensation and a journey towards national triumph and liberty”, he said.
While remembering those that fought for the democratic realization, Aroyewun also commended Nigerians on how far the country has come and assured them of the opportunities ahead.
“We honour the sacrifices of our heroes and heroines who fought tirelessly for our democracy.
“We celebrate our present, acknowledging the progress we’ve made and the opportunities that lie ahead.
“In the spirit of democracy, I stand on the threshold of history to recommit myself to the true ideals of democracy, and to offer a dedicated service to the people of IBLCDA. May our democracy continue to flourish”, Aroyewun said.
