The Iyaloja General of Ikorodu Division, Deaconess Busola Isikalu (Busiq), has inaugurated the Ikorodu Textiles Association, after several years of attempt to re – establish the association.
The inauguration took place at the Ikorodu Plaza office of the Iyaloja General, at the weekend.
Nominations of aspirants for the new association’s executives were sent in from different markets and election were openly conducted. At the end of the exercise, Alhaja Bilikis Bello (Elejina) from the Ladega market, emerged as the President of the association.
Other executives are Mrs Karimot Oshodi (Ajegayi market), Vice President; Alhaja Sekinot Alogba, (Ojubode market) lya Alaje Alaso; Mrs Taibat Anifowoshe, ( Ayangbure/Sabo market) General Secretary and Alhaja Modinat Sode (Ladega market) Treasurer.
Others are Mrs Ojikutu, (Ayangbure/Sabo market) Financial Secretary, Mrs Bilikis (Welfare I); Mrs Ayomide Arogunre (Welfare II) and Alhaja Lamina Kabirat (Majeobaje).
Alhaja (Chief) Mrs Sekinot Dosunmu Solebo was also installed as the Atilehin Egbe Alaso in Ikorodu, while Alhaja Jemilat Fatuga, the Iyaloja Ladega, was made the Matron of the association.
Deaconess Busola Isikalu said that the association was inaugurated to expand the market association in Ikorodu, promote unity and cooperation among members.
“We just inaugurated the executives of the textiles association and this was done to bring unity among the fabric dealers, bring about an organized setting, cooperation and also develop the economy of Ikorodu”, she said.
“We installed Alhaja (Chief) Mrs Sekinot Dosunmu Solebo as Atilehin Egbe Alaso in Ikorodu, because she is an important personality among the fabric dealers circle and with her age comes experience and guidance, which we intend to tap from.
“We also installed Alhaja Jemilat Fatuga, the Iyaloja Ladega, as our matron because she is an important personality to us and probably the eldest who has been coordinating the fabric dealers before and has been around for long.
Advising the new executives, Iyaloja Isikalu charged them on the need to promote unity and cooperation among members.
“My advice to them is that they must bring every member together, promote unity and cooperation. This is how to build the Ikorodu of our dream”.
The Iyaloja General said that nominees from other five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ikorodu Division, will be incorporated into the association’s executives when they joined.
Meanwhile, Alhaja Bilikis Bello (Elejina), the new President of Ikorodu Textiles Association, said that her plans is to promote cooperation and joint business among others to expand Ikorodu textiles and the economy of Ikorodu generally and make it at par with that of Lagos Island and Oshodi.
“There is lots of opportunities and progress to be made with the formation of this association. It is an integral part of the market association that is recognise by the palace, state and other stakeholders. We want to cooperate and build the lkorodu market to a high level like that of the Lagos Island and Oshodi”, she said.
“It was formed to make fabric dealers in Ikorodu, pool resources together to have large resources to bring container shipment to Ikorodu, so that residents in need of large quantity of fabrics for social engagement, can get from us instead of going outside the community.
She charged members of her cabinet to develop patience in dealing with members of the association.
“In my position as the President, I want to appeal to my cabinet members to have patience and listen to members more, because that is the best way to manage an association as big and as important as this”, she said.
“I charge everyone into textiles business in Ikorodu, to always join us at our meeting every Friday, at the Ita Elewa Plaza. There is a lot of benefits for them in it”.
Iyaloja Sabo, Alhaja Mutiat Abeni Ojulari, also speaking, charged the new executive members to be prepared for the tasks ahead and ready to give their total commitment and dedication.
After the election, the new executives and members in large number embarked on a rally round major streets and markets in Ikorodu, to announced the inauguration of the association and its executives. They also visited their matrons in their various shops.
