Following the concern raised by the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, on the floor of the House on Wednesday, the Nigerian House of Representatives have passed a resolution that the management of Kimberly Clark should reconsider its decision to close down its company in Nigeria.
The company, which produces sanitary pads and diapers, came into the country two years ago when it started producing from its plant located within the Industrial Estate, Odogunyan, Ikorodu.
It was alleged that the American multinational, two days ago, begun the process of shutting down its operations in the country after laying off nearly 90% of its employees.
Rep. Benson, who posted on THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform his efforts in ensuring that the company with over 100 million dollars investments stays, also added that the House has set up a committee to meet with the management of the company to find solutions to challenges that prompted the decision.
“Earlier today, I raised concerns about the impending shutdown of the Kimberly Clark factory in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, on the floor of the House of Representatives”, Rep. Benson said.
“This factory, which produces sanitary pads and diapers, entered the Nigerian market just two years ago with a significant foreign direct investment of over 100 million dollars.
“As a resolution, the House has decided that Kimberly Clark should reconsider its decision to close down its business and exit the Nigerian business environment, pending intervention by the House.
“Additionally, the Committee on Commerce will urgently meet with the management of Kimberly Clark and relevant government agencies to discuss their challenges and find lasting solutions”, he said.
