The Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU), has declared that none of its members will contest the position of the President of the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) coming up later this year, but that it will support the most qualified aspirant from Imota.
According to the leading union body in the Ikorodu Division, its position is in adherence to the rotational agreement among the three union bodies – Student union bodies in Ikorodu Constituency II – Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Ijede LCDA and Imota LCDA.
In a statement by the President, Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU), Comrade Abdulsalam Tijani, on Thursday, he emphasized that since Igbogbo and Ijede have produced President of NAIDS in the past, it is fair that Imota takes its turn this year that the position is coming to the Ikorodu Constituency II.
He said that the position was a resolution agreed upon at a Congress of the Igbogbo Students’ Union.
“As the President of Igbogbo Students’ Union, I, hereby, declare that our union has no interest in contesting for the position of President in the upcoming National Association of Ikorodu Division Students (NAIDS) election”, he said.
“This decision is based on our rotational agreement among the three Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Constituency 2, which comprises Igbogbo/Baiyeku, Imota, and Ijede.
“As Igbogbo/Baiyeku and Ijede have already produced past presidents, it is only fair that Imota takes the next turn.
“In light of this, I urge any member of Igbogbo Students’ Union not to contest for the position of President at NAIDS national”, Comrade Abdusalam said.
ISU President, in the statement, charged members of the ISU to back any candidate that possesses necessary credentials and best qualified for the position of NAIDS President.
“Instead, we will support any candidate from Imota that possesses the necessary qualities and credentials for the position”, he said.
“The above was agreed upon at the Congress level. Let us uphold our rotational agreement and promote unity and fairness among our constituents.
“Thank you for your understanding”.
