-ISU holds debate, quiz competitions
Students across the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Monday, celebrated the Children’s Day with the Igbogbo royal family at the Adeboruwa palace.
The annual celebration was hosted by His Royal Majesty (Oba) Barr. Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, who was represented by his Oloris, Olori Sekinat and Olori Omolara Kasali.
The celebration, which featured dancing, cultural display, drinking competition and other exciting programmes, was organised in partnership with the Igbogbo Students’ Union (ISU) which is celebrating its CHEF Week which featured educational competitions.
Representatives of different primary schools within the council, took part in Spelling Bee, while those in the Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School, engaged in English Language debate, and Yoruba and English Language debate, respectively.
At the end of the intense engagements, only five schools out of the 12 that entered for the Spelling Bee Competition, qualified for the finals. They are D’Great Almubarak, Salvation Army Primary School, El Supreme, Gold Line and Kidville Primary Schools.
In the Junior Secondary Schools category, it was also fierce competition among the eight schools that participated and at the end of the competition, five schools – Oreyo Junior Grammar School, Community Junior Secondary School, Offin, Lagos State Giris Junior Model College, Igbogbo, Community Junior Secondary School, Bayeku and Zumratul Islammiyyah Junior Secondary School, proceeded to the finals.
The only competition which produced a winner was Yoruba Language Debate as Oreyo Senior Grammar School, Igbogbo, defeated two other schools that participated.
The English Language debate was a battle of the titans among eight schools with five schools – Community Senior Grammar School, Kedville Senior Grammar School, Zumratul Islammiyyah Senior Grammar School, JGA Senior Grammar School and Oreyo Senior Grammar School, qualifying for the finals.
Meanwhile, Comrade Abdulsallam Tijani, President, ISU, commended all the participating schools for their prowess and discipline during the competitions.
He charged students to always engage in academic engagement in and out of school, to enable them become sound and competitive.
He also thanked sponsors and everyone that supported the ISU CHEF Week, in one way or the other.
Joining the royal family to mark the 2024 Children’s Day, were Chief Banjoko Rasaq, Baale Igbe Laara, Baale Igbe, Baale Offin, Hon. Basirat Banjoko, Councilor representing Ward C1, Mr Shakiru Seidu, Chairmanship aspirant, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, Sen. Comfort Olafare, Constituency Officer to Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, among others.
