Pupils of the Kith & Kin Nursery & Primary Schools, Ikorodu, on Thursday, celebrated the world Turtle Day with the rest of the world by drawing images of the creature as the school embarked on a creative journey.
World Turtle Day is an annual event that has been taking place since 2000. It was founded by American Tortoise Rescue. It’s urging people to come together to understand tortoises and turtles better.
Every year, World Turtle Day is observed on May 23.
In a statement by the management of the school, it was stated that pupils were given the opportunity to be creative about the creature which the day is earmarked to be celebrated.
“We are excited to share the wonderful observance of World Turtle Day at Kith & Kin Nursery and Primary School. Our young artists embarked on a creative journey to celebrate these magnificent creatures through fine art”, the statement said.
“Each child had the opportunity to draw their own rendition of a turtle, showcasing their budding artistic skills and imagination. Through this activity, they not only honed their fine art abilities, but also deepened their appreciation for the beauty and significance of turtles in our world”.
The management of the school also charged members of the public on the importance of protecting the creatures.
“As we commemorate World Turtle Day on May 23rd, let’s remember the importance of protecting these marvelous creatures and their habitats. Whether near water or on land, turtles and tortoises play vital roles in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems”, the statement said.
“Thank you to all the parents for supporting our students in this enriching experience. Together, let’s continue to nurture creativity and environmental awareness in our children”.
