The national association of the Oriwu College Old Students’ of Nigeria (OCOSAN), has congratulated the Principals and staff of the premier college in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on the recognition and abd awards of excellence bestowed on the staff of the school, at the recently held Lagos State Education District II 18th Annual Merit Award.
Alhaji Muhammed B.S. Arole, National President, OCOSAN, felicitated the school while speaking with THE IMPACT, on Friday.
Education District II held its 18th Annual Merit Award on April 30, with recognition and awards of excellence bestowed on teaching and non-teaching staff of the district for their excellent performances and dedication to duty.
At the event attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, District ll, Mrs Anike Adekanye and other dignitaries, four staff of Oriwu College were honoured with awards of excellence.
About 90 teaching and non-teaching staff were awarded in various categories. Mr. Olaoye Oyekunle Toyese of Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, and Mrs Otayomi Esther Remilekun of Ajekunle Senior High School, Kosofe, emerged as 2022 and 2023 Best Teachers in the senior category respectively, while Mrs Oredola Mary Orebukola of Community Junior High School, Alapere, and Mrs Odumusi Oluwakemi of Eva Adelaja Girls’ Junior Secondary School, Bariga, were awarded 2022 and 2023 Best Teachers in junior category respectively.
Other staff of Oriwu College that were also honoured at the award ceremony were the Principal, Mrs Iyabo Agnes Elusakin who emerged the 2nd Best Principal in the Senior School Category, while Mrs Defunke Ranti won the award of the Best Counselor in the Senior School Category and Mrs. Adesanya, F. O., emerged the Best Non-Teaching Staff in Education District 2.
Arole, speaking on the feat, said that the entire Board of Trustees (BOT), National Executive Council and sets of the OCOSAN, are proud of the staff and students of the school.
He charged them to continue to maintain academic excellence that the school has been known for.
“This is indeed a great news and coming at a time that we are planning to celebrate the school’s 75th anniversary. It shows that we are a school to reckon with at all times, and we are not in any way planning to rest on our oars”, he said.
“I congratulate the staff and students and also, the entire old students of our great school. We are proud and appreciative of the efforts that the Principal and students are putting in to ensure that they sustain the school’s legacies and we, as former students, will continue to support them”.
He called on all former students of Oriwu College to support the 75rth anniversary of the school, a celebration he said is being planned to further contribute to the development of the school.
Meanwhile, Mrs Iyabo Elusakin, while presenting the awardees at the school, urged the staff and students of the school to emulate the awardees’ exemplary characters by ensuring excellence in all they do.
She pledged that the school would continue to provide enabling environment for the students and staff.
