The Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Defense, Rep. Babajimi Benson, has expressed his support for the attempt being made by the Nigerian-born chess player, Tunde Onakoya, to break the Guinness World Record.
Benson, who is representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, joined many other notable Nigerians and large number of citizenry, to throw their support behind the 29 – year old chess player.
The three term lawmaker expressed his support in a statement.
Onakoya, who is in New York City, aims not only to break the world record of 56 hours set in 2018, but also to raise money for the Gift of Chess and Chess in Slums Africa organizations that aim to use the game to lift children out of poverty.
“I am thrilled to show my support for Tunde Onakoya, a talented Nigerian Chess master as he embarks on a remarkable mission to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon”, the lawmaker said.
“Tunde’s dedication to promoting chess at the grassroots level, as the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, is truly inspiring.
“His ongoing participation in a 58-hour Marathon at Times Square in New York, is a testament to his extraordinary spirit and determination.
“As residents of Ikorodu, we take immense pride in Tunde’s remarkable accomplishments, and we have full confidence that he will continue to excel and shine brightly in his endeavours.
“Congratulations, Tunde! You are a true source of pride for all of us in Ikorodu”.
