After several appeals, the Senate of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), has directed that the institution’s registration portal for the 2023/2024 registration should be re –opened for many of its students that have been unable to complete their registration, to be able to do so.
The message was contained in a memo titled, ‘Re: Opening of the University Portal for the First (1st) Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Registration’, with Ref: SEN/STAT/EXTR/018/093, signed Olufemi A. Adebanjo, Director, Senate Division for the lnstitution Registrar, which was issued on Monday, 26th February, 2024.
“The Senate at its 18th Statutory meeting held at on Tuesday, 26th March, 2024, while considering students’ issues on registration/clearance, observed that some of the newly admitted students in the 2023/2024 academic session are yet to complete the registration in their various departments”, the memo stated.
“The Senate, in its consideration, noted the fact that the management of the University had been receiving appeals from different quarters to give the students another opportunity to complete their registration, even though the university has had its matriculation ceremony since Monday, 26th February, 2024.
“In view of the above, the Senate after a brief deliberation, approved the :
“Re-opening of the university portal to enable the affected students to pay school fees and complete their registration with effects from Tuesday, 26th March, 2024 to 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 31st March, 2024.
“Foregoing decision of the Senate is hereby, conveyed for your information and necessary actions”, it added.
The re –opening may be connected with an appeal made last week by a concerned member of THE IMPACT WhatsApp platform, Mr Oresajo Oyesanmi Michael, for a student, Master Adewale Lawrence Ayomilere, 100 Level Mechanical Engineering, who was admitted into LASUSTECH months back but unable to pay his school fees in good time and when he eventually able to gathered the money, the institution had closed the registration portal.
The boy, we gathered was unable to take the unfortunate development lightly which made his parent to cried out.
This, coupled with other cases of students who were unable to pay their school fees due to the economic hardship in the country.
On the platform, THE IMPACT Chief Administrator, called out elected and appointed political office holders, while Rep. Babajimi Benson, the representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), the representative of the Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly and Mr Taiwo Odumbo, Principal, LASU International School, responded by getting in touch with the authority of the school, and their assurance was secured for the poor boy to complete his registration.
