A total of 250 residents have benefitted from the Chairman, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Otunba (Hon.) Sulaimon Olanrewaju Kazeem (SKO)’s empowerment and cash support for the people, to cushion the effects of the economic challenges confronting the country.
Additional 100 residents, on Thursday, also got N20, 000 each from the Council boss as he extended the program to Ward A and B at an event which was held at the F1 Bar, along the T.O.S. Benson Avenue, Ikorodu, on Thursday.
The first phase of the initiative came up on Tuesday, with 150 beneficiaries across the Ward C, B and D getting N20, 000, only while one resident was presented with a motorbike for his loyalty and support for the Council Chairman and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The economic support initiative wass tagged, ‘S.K.O. Empowerment Initiative: Cash Assistance Programme’.
Speaking at the presentation, Hon. Sulaimon assured the people that his administration has the interest of the people at heart, and that he would continue to put smiles on their faces.
“Today, I am here to extend this same initiative gesture to the selected residents of Ward A and B as part of my resilience and commitment to transform 250 households as a way of giving back to my own very people of Ikorodu West LCDA”, Hon. Sulaimon said.
“Let me reaffirm my commitment to my people that we have your interest at heart. Let me state here that the beneficiaries are selected from all segments of the community, including religious bodies, CDC/CDAs, Youths, Market Associations and traditional institution.
“The N20, 000 cash will in no small measure alleviate and put smiles on the faces of the people in the face the present high cost of living. Government cannot do it all, in this wise, your cooperation, prayers and patience are needed to give us the push to do more”, he charged.
The Chairman charged residents on the need to maintain peace and harmony.
“In this Holy month, let us jointly pray for peace, harmony, unity and empathy for one another in the spirit of the lent and Ramadan periods”, he said.
A leader of the ruling APC, who has been identifying with the administration of the council boss and supportive of its support initiative, Prince Jamiu Adio Saka, said that the funds would afford the beneficiaries the opportunity to use it for whatever that they desire.
“It is a welcome idea. It is supportive of what the government is doing at the federal and state levels. Things are tough and people need this”, he said.
“The policy allows the beneficiaries to use the funds for whatever their choice is”.
He charged residents to continue to have patience with the government at all levels, and also assured them that there would be positive turnaround in the country
Madam Tairat Bamimosu, one of the beneficiaries from Ward A, thanked the Chairman for the gesture.
“I thank the Chairman for this gesture. It would go a long way in supporting us. I pray for economic prosperity of lkorodu, Lagos and Nigeria”.
Another beneficiary, Mr Adesanya, also commended the support from the Chairman, stating that it came at the right time.
He also enjoined that such gesture should be a continuous one.
